Google will be selling their newest smartphones (Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X) for more than 83-133$  MORE than the US pricing, even when taking taxes and the current weak Euro into consideration for the pricing the additional charge seems rather exhorbitant.

The last Nexus was like only 40€ more than in the USA so that's a considerable increase.

Edited the title. I noticed though that cellphones are WAAAAAY cheaper in France, I even considered ordering from amazon.fr instead of the German one because there was a 50€ price gap.

IMHO it is only because importer had to paid all fees and taxes to get the devices into the continent.

It is always like that.

Many European goods are priced way higher too when exported to North America and Asia.

It is simply just business.

I think Google has a European subsidiary in Luxembourg that they do their business with to evade fees and taxes (similar to every US company operating in Europe). Especially when the last phone they put out last year only cost 40€ more. It's a rip off.

That's not how it works, I think.

iPhone were assembled in China but it doesn't make it affordable in China, for example.

These companies have subsidiaries abroad are for distribution and more things

such as updating google maps for the local streets and places ever so often,

but they still need to bring the goods from abroad.

sis chill, the standard of living in EU countries like germany, france etc. is higher than that of the US anyway

well thats what every company does in Australia. Especially apple, the iPhone here is a $300+ mark up from the american price (650 to 1100 I believe) (some of that is obviously economic differences how much the Aussie dollar is to the American) But even when the Aus dollar was on par with the American dollar, many products were overpriced

I am always confused why cost for a song on itunes is 2-3 dollars in Aus

compares to 99 cents to 1 dollars in USA. I don't understand that.

Actually, US phones are sometimes designed to only work with the North American GSM, UMTS and LTE bands to prevent tourists from cheaply buying technology in the USA.
