Are you surprised? Some of the members of this site will do whatever it takes to prove she isn't worthy of any recognition whatsoever. :smh:

Broke racial barriers, one of the most awarded artists, revolutionized music videos with Thriller, every modern mainstream artist sites him as a major influence, and even people who aren't exposed to the usual media/entertainment world know his name.

Thriller, 1982: Best selling album in history.
Bad, 1986: Second best selling album in history.
Dangerous, 1991: Fastest selling album in history (but I think that title has been taken by someone else now)
HIStory, 1995: Best selling two-disc album in history
Blood on the Dancefloor, 1997: Best selling remix album in history

The HIStory World Tour, 1996-1997, is his most widely viewed and attended tour.

In 2009 he came back from an almost decade long media black out to sell out 50 stadium shows in mere minutes.

He is the definition of longevity and impact. A couple lies and a skin disorder don't change that.

Quoted for accuracy.

He also could sing. Live.

Anyone seriously doubting Michael Jackson's impact is delusional and that's being nice. Madonna was/is a GREAT icon for Female Pop stars. But Michael was the epitome for the GENRE and music as a whole, regardless of s-x or genre. From Rock to Disco & R&B to Pop! He's inspired many acts outside of just Pop music. His impact is greater and there's really no debating.

Truthfully speaking. . . . Michael's vibrato ALONE killed careers. Musically, vocally etc he was the superior act. Sure you can all say it's subjective, but in all actuality it's not.

ON TOPIC: I'm extremely proud of Gaga though! ! ! Definitely deserve this feat because she's one of the best for our generation. A true all around act and that's a major reason why her legacy will also live on!

And that's that. Y'all can continue to seethe but Eminem is a Rap God and legend. He earned his spot. Britney was huge but Eminem beat her easily.

Congrats to Gaga! She has earned this. :applause:

Right, Eminem is an artist. Not so Britney.

Replace Madonna with MJ and replace Eminem with Britney. Then they're right :whitney:

No really, it's not only about to be huge for teenagers, but to be an respected artist. And Britney was and is a pure pop product and she was never unique as an singer and performer.

So i can't that you love someone like Michael, and want Britney to see in such a league, it is blasphemy for real artists.

Congraz ALL! :)

I think ppl forget that this is about defying artist. In that regard I would say M deserves this whole heartedly more than MJ. MJ did his one thing and only that (though brilliantly), Madonna was far more versitile and influnced fashion, pop culture, sound, movies etc more than MJ. She truly changed The pop history and what a pop star is or pop shows and ALL that more.

I am definately not saying MJ didnt have an impact etc ofcourse he did. His The king of pop. I just don't think his actual influnce is as broad. Hard to explain :)

also, Madonna had way more longevity. MJ's peak was only second to The Beatles but Madonna continued her success into the 2000's when MJ started to receive negative press in the 90's with the children and changing skin color

I feel there's a quality to MJ that puts him above Madonna because when you take away the image and visual performance, leaving just the music, Michael's music is so much more rich. There are so many more subtle complexities in the arrangements and productions because MJ focused a lot on the music. Madonna's music is great, too, but she tends to rely a lot more on packaging her music with her image, which often allows the music to be just passable at times.

Oh, and for staying on topic's sake: I'm so glad she's getting this recognition. I feel like she gets jipped on things like these too many times.

When you're talking about the quality of the music, MJ did not write his entire albums where Madonna did. Also her music has been reviewed greatly on Metacritic where MJ's last album when he was alive barely got over a 50

Neither did Madonna

Also Michael's later albums didn't get critical acclaim due to his image being tarnished after the child molestation accusations and the media witch hunt that ensued.
