Britney should be in m&ms spot :madge:

No. Eminem is one of the most commercially successful artist of the millenium, he broke racial boundries in hip-hop, and was and still is an controversial icon.

Probably on Grindr

I'm not saying she didn't earn her spot in history, I'm just saying she doesn't trump Michael when it comes to being the defining artist of the 1980's

1983 madonna

1984 like a virgin

1986 true blue

1989 like a prayer

sorry babes

This. And they disagree, since she's the one there. Make out of that w.e. you want

Sorry I don't think he did more for music than BritBrit. He did a lot, but Britney literally renewed pop music time and time again.

Sorry which of those albums you quoted sold 65 million world wide or had 5 #1's? Or even just 45 million world wide.  Thriller sold 29 million in the U.S. alone without the rest of the world. Madonna has only produced one album to sell more than 29 million and it did it worldwide and that album was in the 90's.  Madonna was and is amazing but MJ ruled over the 80's and his 90's albums sold 30 million and 20 million worldwide. He might even be the 90's most influential. With 6 top tens singles in the 90's. He outsold Nirvava in the 90's too. Heal the World also had more global impact than any other song in the 90's.

MJ was iconic from 1980-1984 whereas Madonna was iconic for more of the decade from 1983-1989

Really girl, Bad which sold 45 Million World wide came out in '87. You know the album with 5 #1's.

Exactly. IDK how they totally ignored Bad's slayage.

Also, I have to add to those that doubt whether she truly represents the decade of the 10s:  I actually do think she perfectly represents the new generation of artists in the internet age. She was the first full bonafide superstar this age has produced, and she's the first that has had to deal with, and try to keep up with the fickle "love you one minute/hate you the next" 24 hour media culture for better and for worse. I remember going through an old ATRL thread once and some didn't expect much of her because she was quote a "YouTube star." It's just one reason her career and fame is very interesting to look at.
