Snow 1,582
Well, The instrumental and production is very nice however very cliche... Not a fan of his vocal delivery. Nice I suppose, but not my thing.
Miranda Sings 1,705
As a huge fan of both the Bond films and Sam Smith, I'd be lying if I said the song is a bit underwhelming. It's a good tune, and the production is outstanding, but I guess I was expecting a little more. To be fair, it's kind of hard to live up to Skyfall. I'm still really liking the song, though. This also means Gaga has a better chance of snatching that Oscar for TIHTY
yASSsss 35,510
He irritates me. Everyone seems to love him but he's just a bunch of technical talent mixed with an incredibly annoying voice (imo) and people act as if his music is high class or something when really the lyrics are absolutely generic and even awful on every release. Plus, like many of the more popular male artists today, he's hooked on his falsetto so much he sounds like a squeak toy that got punched in the throat. His artistry doesn't interest me, I detest his vocals, the usual production of his music is uninteresting and his general artistic/musical direction is not my cup of tea, and actually quite bland to me. He is literally one of the most generic, non-thought provoking artists imaginable but dressed up in a "mature" adult contemporary backing and that seems to hide it for people. He gets respect for what, exactly? No boundary pushing and everything he is or does has been done before. This is at least decent for a Sam Smith song because it's interesting, it's orchestral and it's different. He's good with melodies on this one too, I'll give him that. I just do not get his appeal. And now some of us who aren't fans have to wait even longer for a good Bond theme. so u must hate Entertainers like Katy Perry too Call me by your name and I'll call you by mine
DeleteMyAccount 11,881
I do agree that his falsetto is used a bit too much. I think he could've went for those big chest notes near the end, but I think the song is pretty good! Definitely an Oscar contender.
AlexanderLevi2 5,849
I turned it off right after he started squeaking like a mouse that got kicked into a refrigerator Nice job Samuel, the melodies are presentable. The production is wonderful. The lyrics are moderately atrocious as usual too, unsurprisingly. Why don't you try again next time when you learn that just because your voice can reach the pitch of a teapot doesn't mean it has to on every song Can't wait for the next Bond theme! all you needed to say was its not my cup of tea and move on. He's just a kid making music, lighten up Currently listening to Joanne
Chic 20,830
so u must hate Entertainers like Katy Perry too She has no perpetual vocal quirks, her voice isn't irritating to me, her music generally isn't respected to the level of Sam Smith's, the music itself is in no way pretentious, etc. She doesn't push boundaries either but this awful combination of unsavory musical nuances present in Sam Smith's music is just gross to me. Also, I'd rather justify my reasons for not liking his music rather than risk my post seeming pointless for a simple negative opinion. At least there's something to discuss in this case. SlayedForTheGod 665
....writing doesnt have to be dramatic and complicated to achieve something. ive seen some of ya'lls writing and its so melodramatic. like no musician ever writes like that. sometimes the most simplistic lyrics are the most effective. the song is great. i hear "bond theme" when i hear it. and sam sounds great. Exactly. Writing poetry is a big difference from writing a good pop song (or movie theme song)...two different skill sets.
Bear 7,515
I don't like it and I was really expecting to love it I can't explain it; his voice is great, the orchestra is great, it has good simple but strong lyrics and has all the elements a bond song needs- But I just don't feel like it works. Personal taste I guess!
