Most people think it is a good thing, for the people who died, not for their families.

I attented the LOVE PARADE 2010  in Duisburg, where a crowd panic resulted in a stampede and killed 21 people and injured more than 500 people - a lot of them severely. This was actually one of the worst disasters in Germany and also an incident, that I will never forget for the rest of my life!

To see now on the news, that there was a stampede with more than 700 (!) casualties is really shocking for me - also for personal reasons.

For me, it makes a supposedly sacred ritual seem very human, even animal. Like the running of the bulls in Spain, or a bunch of crazy music fans stampeding into a venue. Crowd behavior is crowd behavior. 

Is there some rule that this event only occurs yearly? Otherwise why not run it every couple weeks with smaller numbers?

It is logical to be happy for them, for Muslims. 

Hajj happens yearly during Eid, for around 6 days. 

People can go to Mekkah and do Omrah anytime. But it is different, because Hajj is a faridah, a must for the ones who can afford it and are physically capable of going through the whole thing.

This all sounds so miserable to me, millions of people marching along, in close quarters for days. I mean, I'm sure it's a wonderful experience for those of that religious background...but I couldn't handle it. It really is such a different world.

They should figure out some way to control crowds, but I don't know what can be done when there are this many people?

Why would non-muslims be happy or celebrate that these people died when they don't even believe in same things? Many are also atheists.

From human side, it's only normal to feel sad, shocked...some sort of empathy.

The fact that it's a holy place and most muslims would want to die there, has nothing to do with non-muslims, especially those who find enjoyment in this type of news.

This doesn't exactly happen every year. In article it's said for 9 years, it was incident-free.

It's still a horrible way to die. And no one wants to lose a family member this way.

I'm talking about religion in general here. People worship a god to benefit their current life or the afterlife (more to benefits the current life). Hoping to get a better job, better health, better family, more money, etc... If something happen to me or my family during our worship of this god, I will lose my faith in this god. I wouldn't turn it around and say "It's a blessing to die while worshipping this god." This god is all powerful but refuse to keep his santuary safe for worship. I'm outta here. BS god. Then you have the religious extremists that worship a god for the pleasure of the afterlife since maybe their current life is worthless. They would blow themselves up hoping to go to paradise.

Is you want to be a humanist, you should be angry at the Muslims who say wanting to die their is a good thing. It's silly to feel sad for people because they don't want what you want:. "poor Muslims, they don't get to eat pork." "What a shame that some old person in chronic pain decided to end it with an overdose, I wish he'd been stopped and forced to live in pain.

They didn't kill themselves, that's forbidden. They didn't purposely die there.

They accept the death if/when it comes and it's just prefered to die there than anywhere else in the world. You can die of heart-attack or old age in the same place too and it's the same!

Their belief in afterlife has nothing to do with you being a decent human or not.

If hundreds of Hindus die, you won't go first to ask them "are you guys happy about it so I can be happy too?"

Of course you don't feel sad or anything for strangers, especially when they are evil muslims who got their karma for 9/11! Right? You would not be making any similar comments if the hundreds of dead would be Jewish or Christians. You would have human decency in that case.
