she never had a single go higher than #70 in the U.S., so sit down. She's much more of an icon with regard to fashion and her artistry. no one's faves copied her music, trust me.

I love Grace. This reminds me of my elderly neighbor who thinks everyone is copying her lawn decorating. You know... Same dollar store solar lights and such. It's cute.  You just smile and move on. Its just one of many old people's unspoken rights. Bless her heart.

Grace is an icon and she has influenced many people but at this point she should be flattered that someone as big and current as Gaga is trying to collaborate with her.

She is an icon but she is no Cher or Madonna.  She didn't stay relevant like RuPaul. So she should humble a little because she sounds bitter and desperate.

I really don't understand why people are talking about chart positions as if that has any bearing on the influence Grace has had on Gaga, or as if her having a low position in the charts is an excuse for people not knowing who she is. Do you think Gaga only listens to Top 40 music, do you only listen to Top 40 music?

Grace and Gaga are two similarly outrageously fashioned women who make dance music, the parallels are clear, Grace not having the same sucess as Gaga on the radio doesn't change that.

When the film Metropolis by Fritz Lang came out in the 1920's it was a major box office bomb, the studio lost millions of dollars, and critics loathed it. Almost a hundred years later, in spite of Metropolis not "charting" well here is Lady Gaga, being influenced by it.

An artist's impact is not measured in sales, the sooner people understand that the better.

Grace is being unpleasant, but she isn't being untrue. If a stranger walked up to you at a party and literally washed your feet, as Gaga did to Grace, it would be fair to say they were obsessed with you. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Bad Bromance

It's not difficult to understand how some people do not know who Grace Jones is. Especially the younger fans who were not around when Grace was of significance.

As for Grace being an influence on Gagas music, who hasn't been an influence? She seems to have been the biggest fan of EVERYONE at some point so it is difficult to keep up.

OT: What is it with these older female legends bashing Gaga and crying copycat? It's getting...reductive. :reductive2:

Of course it isn't hard to understand that there are some people in this fan base who do not know who Grace Jones is.  The majority of the members on GagaDaily are young teenagers and young people in their early 20s who aren't familiar with her artistry and avant garde fashion.

To make matters worse, Grace Jones hasn't had massive hits in the past 20 years, unlike Madonna who has put out 6 albums in the last 15 years alone.  I'm sure if Grace Jones would have released at least 2 albums in the last 15 years that spawned, let's say, 3 top 10 hits, many of our young members would know of her much more so than now.

On Topic:  I totally agree with you.  The bashing of Gaga by older female legends who claim Gaga is a copycat is really getting ridiculous.  Especially when you take into consideration that Gaga always gave Grace Jones credit for being such an influence on her early on in her career.   :smh:

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

Whatever crawled up her snatch, she needs to use her two hands and pull that f--ker out.

I respect Grace Jones even as far back as the Conan the Barbarian and Mayday days, but damn this bitter taste from reading that.

Do your own research.

Riot Poof

Does Grace not want people to be influenced by her?

Why are these people so mad that they have a legacy? :cryga:

I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.

I respect her impact and her artistry, but it always gets me a little sad to see somebody strike at Gaga like that. Like, so much of Gaga's inspirations and idols are just so bitter towards her, sometimes.

I cannot roll my eyes hard enough. I respect Grace Jones, but she's not incapable of being wrong, and this is just getting tiresome and not a flattering look. Like, this is reminding me of an even more bitter version of Carrie Fisher's character on that one episode of 30 Rock. Plus, a lot of the things she's taken on as her own, like that hood, is a Halston creation and was also worn at the time by Bianca Jagger and others.

I“She is obsessed!” Ms. Jones said, laughing dismissively. “She’s been trying to get me to work with her forever. She’s even gone to my brother in L.A. to get him to try and talk me into it.”

(The brother, Noel, later said that he was never approached by Lady Gaga, but that he is friends with someone in her “inner circle” and they discussed the idea of a collaboration.)

With pride bordering on paranoia, she writes: “I have been so copied by those people who have made fortunes that people assume I am that rich. But I did things for the excitement, the dare, the fact that it was new, not for the money. And too many times I was the first, not the beneficiary.”

NYT exposing and clocking tho. :smh:
