Grace Jones: "Lady Gaga is obsessed with me"

You stated that you weren't going to take the word of people who don't know their history and that was referring to gay people. Therefore, I pointed out that there are others in this thread that aren't gay males and also that all gay males don't have the same background and experiences that you personally have.

There was no reason to dismiss those who aren't like you or don't like or follow the same music that you do.

I then posted "One example I gave, pretty clear who I was referring to  [:lolga:]" trying to clarify that I was actually referring to just one person with the first part of the statement.

The second half was about people saying Grace has had no impact, which isn't true as other members has stated she has.

We gonna do this all night, boo? :koons:

Bette Davis

I love this movie, I watched it a few months ago on Netflix. All About Eve :sara:

It's such an iconic classic :flutter: That movie began my love for the queen Bette Davis. It's such a shame that more young people don't watch the old classics :lana:

Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.

You claimed that anyone who didn't know Grace was either a teen or living under a rock. You are wrong on both counts.

Whether she has impact or not, and how much, is a different subject.

If you want to, we can.

I also said (to someone else) that there must be some sort of difference in her impact in different areas as it's hard to believe that some of you have apparently no idea about her :emma:

I like pulling your leg a little, babe. You make it too easy.

Which is exactly what I stated all along...that differences in backgrounds would explain those who either don't know who she is or don't know much about her. That doesn't mean that they are living under a rock, don't know their "history of their people" or that their statements aren't truthful.

Who is pulling whose leg here? That's up for debate. :)

I know babes, I'm pretty sure I said it before you... but I allowed you to carry on. The history part is a completely different topic but that can be saved for another day! :emma:

firstly, that quote is totally irrelevant. you said, their "gay approach" to music. that's not the same as saying that the perception of their music is gay. both statements are equally ridiculous, anyway.

secondly, i think you're wrong. i still don't think there's such thing as gay music. what makes music gay? being performed in gay clubs or by gay artists? that's also ridiculous. however, if you wanna define gay music that way, fine. i don't have to agree with that. it's not a fact, rather your perception of it. i'm not b---hing, just stating my opinion. if anything, you're the one being ignorant.

you're being ignorant as well. how the hell would you know if i'm familiar with her or not? stop with the personal stuff, or i'll report your ass.

Feel free to report me, I'm not worried about the way I conduct myself. Now, let me explain further because I think you missed my point.

To say there is no such thing as gay music is an ignorant statement. That is like saying there is no such thing as gay literature or gay film. When Walt Whitman writes about beautiful boys on the beach or when Jean Genet is writing about hustlers in Parisian prisons, that is gay literature. When Xavier Dolan tells the stories of gay men and women, or when John Waters captures the lives of filthy Baltimore gays, they are making gay films. When Mika writes a song about the lack of gay male representation in popular culture that is gay music. When Robert Mapplethorpe photographs the beautiful butts of ballet dancers that is gay photography. Queer art is a thing.

Are you going to tell me that a song like Standing In The Way of Control, a marriage equality protest anthem written by a lesbian and released by a Queer Punk band is not an example of gay music? Are you telling me Carl Bean pouring his heart out on the disco song I Was Born This Way isn't gay music? What about Big Freda, a Queer Bounce artist? There are genres of music created by and for gays, to tell our stories, like Queercore and Riot Grrrl.

So, now you know. Gay music exists.

So much drama over something that isn't even worth discussing.

:later:

Because we are talking about identity politics. When you start talking about a person's identity (in this case gay culture) it riles up their ego.
