German jews in favor of refugees, even if anti-israel

While most Europeans strongly oppose the massive influx of Middle Eastern migrants into Germany, warning against the possible infiltration by terrorists and the affect on European culture, Germany's Jews reportedly firmly support letting the migrants in.

To make sense of the puzzling state of affairs Arutz Sheva spoke with Eliyus Paz, head of the World Bnei Akiva in Germany, who explained the education Jews receive in Germany is the reason for the majority support.

"The truth is that it's kind of surprising that they overwhelmingly support the refugees from Syria, because after all, these are refugees who a majority of them are Muslims, and part of them don't hide their hatred for Israel," said Paz.

"However, apparently the education that they (Jews) received in German schools imprints upon them liberalism and love of the 'other,'" he explained. "These are Jews who immigrated years ago from Russia, and Germany absorbed them."

According to the Bnei Akiva head, Jews in Germany "are exposed in the media to this stream (of thinking) and it influences their own thinking."

However, not all Jews in Germany feel the same.

"Precisely the Israelis who emigrate to Germany have a less favorable opinion towards Syrian refugees," said Paz.

Turning his attention to Jewish life in the country, he explained that many Jews come to synagogues for the holidays of Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement).

"Suddenly on the holidays on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur you see a lot of Jews who arrive at the synagogue, those who you don't really see throughout the year. It's definitely a rare opportunity to touch the Jewish spark within them."

I also think you misrepresented the information here. This article is not about Jews, it's about how Germany basically teaches Jews liberal thought and tolerance, because the Jews who just arrived in Germany and haven't been absorbed in German education are not in support of refugees.

So the conclusion really is that Jews resist refugees until they enroll in German education.

I mean, if you read the underlying message here, you could summarize it by saying that Germany brainwashes Jews into liberalism and tolerance, which could contribute to what some people say is Germany's naivety about the refugee crisis. If antisemitism rises in connection to the influx of refugees we could be seeing the same article in an opposite philosophy in a few months: German life misleads Jews into dangerous idealism.

Of course it does. And here it plays the defining role. I think it's almost comical that this article is published on "Israel National News" when it's basically German propaganda.

But there's no mistaking the undercurrent that's present in this article. They call the Jewish support for refugees "puzzling". It's not as neutral as it seems. You of course read this article with joy because you support refugees, but it's interesting how another Jew could read this exact same article with the opposite emotion.

Well, how are you gonna do that? Especially when most of them are too old to enroll in an education program that could supply this..

From what I recall, you have mentioned several times that Germany has big problems with antisemitism already. If Germany's own citizens can't be taught after a full eductational program, then I don't think it's smart to expect or even desire that refugees will cast off their prejudice within the first few generations.

The article mention that it's surprising that Jewish in Germany are supporting refugees because some of those refugees are anti Israel. Okay but Israel is a country and not all Jews are in favor of Israel and that's why many of them immigrated to another countries in the first place. The one thing to understand about Jews and Israel is that Israel is a country of extreme because there is a big diversity among Jews, them being from various countries and places in the world so of course they won't all share the same opinion or values automatically. It's weird it's as if an article was made about Christian in Germany welcoming refugees, knowing that some Christian probably died in the conflict... so what? Why do they portray Jews as a group with one way of thinking to later say the opposite, I don't get it.
