Wednesday's prime time GOP debate averaged 22.9 million viewers, making it the most-watched program in CNN's history.

For comparison's sake, CNN's most-watched presidential primary debate before Wednesday was a Democratic debate on January 31, 2008. It had an average of 8.3 million viewers.

CNN's most-watched program overall was a special "Larry King Live" episode in 1993. The episode featured Al Gore and Ross Perot debating NAFTA and averaged 16.8 million viewers.

At its online peak around 9:45 p.m., there were 921,000 concurrent users on CNN's live stream, easily making it the most-watched web stream of a primary debate ever.

The first debate was 24 million and also the highest ratings ever for Fox News. We all know people tuned in to listen to Donald Trump. There's no question about it.

I'm sure it'll get beaten. The longer this fool is in the running the more people are gonna tune in to see if he is for real.

I think it was more so what is this idiot going to say next.

We all hate train wrecks but we just can't look away. If Major rob ford did a debate you know how many people would have watched that.

Its more like people tuned in just to watch what ridiculous thing he says next.

Why is Ronald McDonald running for president?

Doesn't that clown have better things to do? Creeping out kids at McDonalds?

I don't see the appeal of having a clown for a president...they are creepy

Whispering

It doesn't surprise me.

I thought he didn't do well last night, but I bet we will see that the polls say something different. We still have a long way to go, but Trump is beginning to look like someone that can say (or fail to say) almost anything.

This one actually had 1 million less viewers than the Fox News one last month.
