Morphine Prince 109,766
Ahmed Mohamed told US media that he had made a clock at home and brought it into MacArthur High School in Irving to show his engineering teacher. Another teacher saw it and, concerned it looked like a bomb, alerted school authorities who called the police. His father fears the incident happened because of his son's Muslim background. Ahmed Mohamed told the Dallas Morning News that he loved engineering and wanted to show his teachers what he could do. He said his engineering teacher had congratulated him but advised him "not to show any other teachers". The teenager said another teacher became aware of it when the device beeped during the lesson. "She was like - it looks like a bomb," he said. The homemade clock consisted of a circuit board with wires leading to a digital display. Later in the day the boy was pulled out of class and interviewed by the school's headteachers and four police officers. The Dallas paper said he was led out in handcuffs, put into juvenile detention and fingerprinted. The school has not commented on the case, but issued a statement saying it "always ask our students and staff to immediately report if they observe any suspicious items". Ahmed's father Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, who is originally from Sudan, said his son had been mistreated because of his name "and because of 11 September". Alia Salem of the Council on American-Islamic Relations agreed: "This wouldn't even be a question if his name wasn't Ahmed Mohamed. He is an excited kid who is very bright and wants to share it with his teachers." Source: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-34266389 Obama tweeted about this: "Having the skill and ambition to build something cool should lead to applause, not arrest. The future belongs to people like Ahmed," Zuckerberg wrote on his personal Facebook page shortly after 1:30PM. "Ahmed, if you ever want to come by Facebook, I'd love to meet you." President Barack Obama this morning invited Mohamed to the White House in a tweet, while Hilary Clinton tweeted support for Mohamed while implicitly saying the boy's arrest was a product of Islamophobia. Morphine Prince 109,766
I want a picture of the clock to see if it actually looks like a bomb Well, all this teacher is gonna see is a device with numbers on it. They've been watching way too many movies and immediately thought it was a bomb (the student being Muslim doesn't help) and can't bring themselves to think logically. Maybe... just MAYBE it's a homemade digital clock?

lego 44,165
They are idiots. First teacher saw it and knew it was a home-made clock and said not to show it to others. Why? Because of his name and religion. "Yup. That's who I thought it was." http://www.dallasnews.com/news/community-news/northwest-dallas-county/headlines/20150915-irving-ninth-grader-arrested-after-taking-homemade-clock-to-school.ece “We have no information that he claimed it was a bomb,” McLellan said. “He kept maintaining it was a clock, but there was no broader explanation.” ??? "Meanwhile, Ahmed is sitting home in his bedroom, tinkering with old gears and electrical converters, pronouncing words like “ethnicity” for what sounds like the first time. He’s vowed never to take an invention to school again." Poor kid. FreePalestine

Guest
The media and 9/11 have done an incredible job at planting fear and ignorance in the hearts of most Americans. His facial expression breaks my heart, I wish I could give him a hug and tell him how smart he is.

The fact that this is an easily recognizable device and a TEACHER not being able to identify it? Could have at least asked if it was a project for another class or something.
