Bebe 17,289 Posted September 16, 2015 Share Posted September 16, 2015 While I don't think many users here have much of an interest in Australian politics, I thought this was an interesting case of casual racism within the Australian parliament.Background information on Penny Wong: She is part of Australia's Labor party who are currently the opposition party to the Liberal Government.She has represented South Australia in the Senate since 2002.Wong is the first Asian-born member of an Australian cabinet.She is the first openly lesbian Australian cabinet minister.She is currently Leader of the Opposition in the Senate but has served as a Minister under Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard and held the position as Leader of the Government in the Senate.She is a well respected politician who has done so much work for LGBT rights in Australia, and I wish she would put her hand up to be opposition leader tbh because I would totally vote for her as Prime Minister.The comments today were made by controversial Liberal MP Ian Macdonald, despite a request from Senator Wong for him to retract his comment Senate President Stephen Parry ruled the remark wasn't unparliamentary.Read More: http://www.skynews.com.au/news/politics/national/2015/09/16/penny-wong-told-to--speak-australian-.html Video: Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
