While I don't think many users here have much of an interest in Australian politics, I thought this was an interesting case of casual racism within the Australian parliament.

Background information on Penny Wong:

She is part of Australia's Labor party who are currently the opposition party to the Liberal Government.
She has represented South Australia in the Senate since 2002.
Wong is the first Asian-born member of an Australian cabinet.
She is the first openly lesbian Australian cabinet minister.
She is currently Leader of the Opposition in the Senate but has served as a Minister under Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard and held the position as Leader of the Government in the Senate.

She is a well respected politician who has done so much work for LGBT rights in Australia, and I wish she would put her hand up to be opposition leader tbh because I would totally vote for her as Prime Minister.

The comments today were made by controversial Liberal MP Ian Macdonald, despite a request from Senator Wong for him to retract his comment Senate President Stephen Parry ruled the remark wasn't unparliamentary.
