A camera operator for a Hungarian nationalist television channel closely linked to the country’s far-right Jobbik party has been filmed kicking two refugee children and tripping up a man at the border hotspot of Rőszke on Tuesday. 

Petra László of N1TV was filming a group of refugees running away from police officers, when a man carrying a child in his arms ran in front of her. László stuck her leg out in front of the man, causing him to fall on the child he was carrying. He turned back and remonstrated with László, who continued filming.

A 20-second video of the scene was posted on Twitter by Stephan Richter, a reporter for the German television channel RTL and soon went viral, leading to the creation of a Facebook group “The Petra László Wall of Shame”.

Hungary’s leading news website Index had also caught László kicking a young girl and boy. 

N1TV said László had been dismissed due to “unacceptable behaviour”. The channel’s editor in chief Szabolcs Kisberk said in a statement posted on the station’s website: “The camerawoman’s employment has today been terminated with immediate effect, the case is now closed for us.”

As well as speeches made by the Jobbik leader Gábor Vona, the channel’s website also contains articles with such headlines as “migrants have swarmed all over the shops” and “Guantanamo = Hungary?”

Hundreds of angry comments appeared on the Facebook group set up to condemn László’s actions on Tuesday evening. 

Opposition parties Együtt-PM and the Democratic Coalition have said that they will initiate charges of violence against a member of the community, which is punishable by up to five years in prison, against László.

A Syrian refugee who was tripped up as he carried his young son by a Hungarian camerawoman has suggested he cannot forgive her.

Osama Abdel-Muhsen Al-Ghadab, 52, told MailOnline how, following the incident, his youngest son, Zaid, was bruised and had vomited due to the shock.

Mr Al-Ghadab described how some of the refugees had “started to lose patience” and wanted to walk to the Hungarian-Serbian border instead of waiting for the planned coach.

 

“People… wanted to walk the 10km to the border, the police were standing there to stop people going," he said.

“It was chaotic, people started to push. I didn’t see where it came from, I didn’t know if it was a camerawoman or a policeman. I just felt myself falling to the ground… How can I forgive her?”

 

The camera operator, Petra László worked for the right-wing Hungarian TV station N1TV.

Mr Al-Ghadab was carrying Zaid at the time, and fell on top of his seven-year-old child after being tripped. The footage then shows Mr Al-Ghadab turning around and shouting at Ms László in disbelief.

He has reportedly since seen the video and an additional clip appearing to show Ms László kicking a young refugee girl.

Following the incident, Ms László was fired from her job and is reportedly under criminal investigation.

She has since apologised — writing in a Hungarian newspaper that “something snapped in me” and that her actions were a result of her being “scared” because she thought she was “being attacked”.

Mr Al-Ghadab disputed this, saying: “People would not attack the media because the media were very nice to the refugees.”

The father of four is from Isis-conquered Deir ez-Zor in Syria and was formally a football coach.

According to the paper, he travelled from Bodrum, Turkey, to Kos by a dinghy and then through Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary and Austria before reaching Germany a couple of days ago. He hopes his wife and other children can soon join them.

This is just awful and incredibly rude of her, but why did this become a worldwide story and when refugees stole from charity or threw water they recieved didn't? Media is so obviously manipulating people's minds, it's hilarious.

I've seen a lot dehumanizing articles about "migrants swarming Europe", they're called cockroaches, vermin, some call for gun ships to stop those boats from reaching Europe. 

I don't get it. Are your sources Macedonian or Hungarian by any chance? Two countries where they were beaten, spat on and kept in cages? Are they talking about "stealing from charity" and "throwing water"? 

The only thing which is overlooked here is that police is chasing these people to force them back to those disgusting camps instead of letting them go, to the countries which will treat them as human beings.

There are plenty of right wing garbage written which dehumanizes these people.

They are refugees, not migrants and why are  you not glad they are portrayed in positive light? Why do you want to see them in bad light?

Should I remind you of all ex Yu refugees which Western world embraced? Spain even gave shelter to Gotovina for God's sake. Would it be better if they built walls to prevent war profiteers and criminals like Arkan and such to enter those countries among actual refugees?

I knew most will be from Macedonia and Hungary. And nice editing and text in between, and then people talk about manipulation. 

 

There is no way for us to verify when and where each scene happened. And why, the context?

Because they are all mean and evil or...? 

People who went out and helped them, took some of them to home to shower and eat, like in Belgrade, tell totally different story.
