Besides his rare pop smashes he is a R&B and hip-hop artist, with die hard followers of the latter genres. Do you know how (generalized tho') homophobic people can be who follows that type of music? It's where the term 'No homo' even comes from. Saying out loud that he respects the community is positive yes, to some degree, but not generally IMO bc of how homophobic many of the people are. That's why I think there's no point for him lying about something like this or even bringing it up if he doesn't really respect the community.
