Of course everyone attacking Israel. If Israel accepts too many refugees with anti-Semitic viewpoints , it won't be a safe space for us anyway.

I'm pro-refugee, but there are enough countries who could take them. Saw no one making a thread about gulf states. Guess it's quite obvious what what the goal is. Where is the thread about the UK?

They're escaping extreme persecution though, the vast majority wouldn't want to inflict that on to other people. The rhetoric that their beliefs are incompatible with the destination country is the exact same excuse used by many people in Western Europe.

Anyway, the UK government has and is still being (deservedly) criticised for its weak response to the crisis, I've also seen articles critical of the Gulf states.

there is a difference. I met so many refugees with anti-Semitic views here. And even non anti Semitic refugees are saying that a lot people hate us. It's for our security.

More than 70% have anti Semitic views in the Middle East and a lot people deny the holocaust. You need to get the Jewish standpoint.

Arab countries kicked hundred thousands of Jews out who are now the majority in Israel. (mizrahi and Sephardi Jews). How gonna they accept people who kicked them out?

Countries should accept refugees but Israel is a special case

They are not a good place to retreat to anyway.

Since they have their own internal conflict that been going on for AGES.

There are many other places the refugees can go to.

Umm idk why you are accussing me of having an agenda? I made this thread because I happened to run into this news article and since I've seen many people here discussing the refugee crisis I thought it was relevant. In fact, many of the refugee threads have been made by you. I don't see the issue.

Maybe their views would change if they would be treated as human first?

Syria took thousands of Palestinian refugees, shouldn't Israel thank them for that, more space for settlers. :emma:

You shouldn't take this personally, Netanyahu and Israeli government are under criticism, I thought you'd agree with Herzog's point of view?

http://www.timesofisrael.com/herzog-israel-has-a-duty-to-take-in-syrian-refugees/

Also gulf countries are under heavy criticism, that's because many extremely wealthy people are out of touch with reality. They think if they sign a check, it's all good. They do fund all the refugee camps in Jordan and Lebanon. Obviously it's not enough. Emirates are size of a peanut, but KSA has more than enough land. Some Saudi says that they do have Syrians but they don't have refugee status. No way for me to verify that tho.

oh and I have to comment on "Israel needs to protect Jewish citizens" - Israel has 20% Arab population and it controls Gaza and West Bank, Israel needs to protect Israeli* citizens, they are not all Jewish and Palestinians need protection too, but that's another topic.

I don't think his comment was anti semitic it just that the excuse of not having space or over population doesn't add up if on the other hand you have a strong politic of immigration towards other people (in this case Jewish). Israel has tons of reasons they could use and this by far the weakest ...

I don't think it's faire but why would Israel help citizen help citizens of a country that dosn't recognize its existence. they are enemy country, of course they aren't going to help each other. European countries aren't enemy countries with Syria , last time I checked....

I disagree with you, because recognizing Israel would be a government action and it's the government (or IS) they're fleeing for.

It's funny how you use the same populist/xenophobic unity of the people/our own people first/etc arguments you often criticize. Also, I don't see how there can be a single 'Jewish standpoint' and don't understand why you bring that up as if there is a point of view all Jewish citizens share on this and as if all Israeli citizens are Jewish. Your arguments could also be used to defend Slovakia which only wants to allow Christian refugees (national unity, Slovak point of view, security, blah blah). It's also bad for the discussion how quickly you braught up the 'anti-semite!' and 'hidden anti-Israel agenda!'.

That's a good point i didn't think of that but I guess that the Israeli government isn't considering (or closing its eyes) on that perspective. It's a shame really because if as you say they would support efugee feeling from an enemy country it could help them on the long run .. for example make peace at some point with Syria if it's change its government (and I hope it's a matter of time...) but it's also very risky I don't know...

Also if they host refugees, refugges may not be able to go back to their country. I remember a man I met from Lebanon living in Israel because he was in the army and the lebanese and israeli army worked together on a mission against hezbollah. For some reason they had to cross the border of Israel and now 10 yeats after he is unable to go home because the border is closed! Maybe this situation could happen i don't know...
