Israel won't accept refugees from Syria, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday as the government began building a security fence along the Syrian border.

"Israel is not indifferent to the human tragedy of the refugees from Syria and Africa," Netanyahu said at the beginning of his Sunday Cabinet meeting, the prime minister's office said.

But "Israel is a small country, a very small country, that lacks demographic and geographic depth," he said. "Therefore, we must control our borders, against both illegal migrants and terrorism."

"Israel is a small country, a very small country, that lacks demographic and geographic depth," he said. "Therefore, we must control our borders, against both illegal migrants and terrorism."

-Israel has been actively accepting new Jewish citizens since its birth and nearly 3 million had been immigrated under the Law of Return.

-Refugees are not terrorists and I think it's safe to assume that Israel won't let anyone with a weapon or a worrying figure get through the Israeli borders/checkpoints.

That being said, no one expected them to offer help anyway.

It's to be expected Syria has an ongoing conflict with Israel.... They have doctors helping wounded though, on the border. They don't check who they are fighting for...

It's their right.

but Europeans say refugees should go to closest country which is not in war? How contradicting? Let's throw them all to sea.

Are they obligated to do so? They have right to protect their country from social disbalance.

So no one is? Not Europe, not the first stable neighbouring country?

Funny how that works.

Are they obligated to do so?

No, but that doesn't make their government free from moral criticism for it, just like other nations are coming under criticism for failing to act appropriately.

You should really specify what you mean by "social disbalance" though, at best it's confusing and arbitrary and at worst it comes across borderline racist...

I don't think it's faire but why would Israel help citizen help citizens of a country that dosn't recognize its existence. they are enemy country, of course they aren't going to help each other. European countries aren't enemy countries with Syria , last time I checked....
