Israel won't accept refugees, will build border fence

Well obviously this would happen. It's unfortunate and not fair that innocent Syrians have to go through this, but no country is expected to be or should be an agent of morality. A country's first and foremost duty is to its own citizens, and given how rife antisemitism and anti-Israeli sentiment is the Middle East (and within the Arab community of Israel), Israel has no choice but to refuse refugees. They already have their own problem, specifically the Arab birthrate in Israel far exceeding that of the Jews. There's no way they would want to exacerbate that problem.

I don't think it's faire but why would Israel help citizen help citizens of a country that dosn't recognize its existence. they are enemy country, of course they aren't going to help each other. European countries aren't enemy countries with Syria , last time I checked....

because of humanity? That country's president is killing own people with chemical weapons, why does "recognition" matter when people flee from terror? Why are they treating al-nusra front fighters which are offshoots or Al-Qaeda in their hospitals but won't take innocent refugees? They didn't want any African refugees either but they're calling Jews all around the world to move to Israel, if that is not racism, what is?

That Arab birthrate is a myth, so many orthodox jewish families in illegal settlements of West Bank have 10-12 kids. Many Palestinian families have 3-4 kids.

Israel made big graveyard last summer in Gaza, there is space for refugees.

How do you justify treatment of African asylum seekers in Israel?

I just researched the birthrate thing, and wow I didn't know that! Apparently it was only higher for a certain time because of the lower age of the Arab population, though now it's converged more or less. Interesting, thanks for pointing that out.

As for the Gaza point, isn't it up to the Palestinian Authority to take in refugees? As I understand it, Gaza is out of Israel's jurisdiction.

And no, I don't agree with the treatment of African asylum seekers. I don't agree with everything that Israel's done, but in the case of Syrian refugees, I can see why Jewish Israelis would want to keep them out for the sake of security.

Whispering

Out of all the countries in the world, this is to be expected. It doesn't surprise me.

What surprises me are the extremely wealthy countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and a few others in that area, taking ZERO refugees!  They have the money and infrastructure to take them...what's their issue? I saw a UAE government leader on CNN last night say it was because they were afraid of getting ISIS members in the group of refugees.

Gaza's borders are controlled by Israel and Egypt and let's be real, not many people are going to seek asylum in Gaza for a multitude of reasons. :emma:

No one can go in and out of Gaza without Israel's permission. Gaza is under blockade, Gaza and West Bank are under Israeli occupation.

I think Abbas said he'd take refugees to West Bank but it's not in his power to do anything.

I think it doesn't have to do much with security.

I have not said it was fair and not racist but what are people expecting? They still have an ongoing conflict regarding territories so it make sense they wouldn't take refugee. It doesn't make it human or right but it's just logic from their perspective

I know that lol. I wasn't the one who suggested that Gaza take refugees. I was just responding and wondering if only the PA has the right to accept refugees if they wanted to.

Opposition leader Herzog said

"Israel has a duty to take in Syrian refugees

Zionist Union leader says he spoke to Syrian opposition leader, insists Jews cannot be apathetic as hundreds of thousands seek sanctuary"

“Jews cannot be apathetic when hundreds of thousands of refugees are searching for safe haven,” he said, referring to the plight of Europe’s Jews in the run-up to the Holocaust.

Former British chief rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks made a similar appeal on Thursday, telling the BBC that Britain should make a “very clear and conspicuous humanitarian gesture, like Kindertransport” – the absorption of hundreds of Jewish children fleeing the Nazis before the outbreak of World War II.

Yesh Atid MK Elazar Stern also called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take in a limited number of Syrians fleeing the fighting, urging him on Thursday “to save them, but also as a message to our own children.”

“I call on you to do what [former Likud prime minister Menachem] Begin did and invite to Israel a limited number of Syrian refugees,” he said, referring to Begin’s decision to grant citizenship to 66 so-called Vietnamese boat people who were fleeing the communist regime at home.

“I think that the State of Israel, because of the lessons of the Holocaust and the compliance of the world, cannot remain indifferent. I call on members of the Knesset, the public and rabbis to join me in this call. I believe that Diaspora Jews would also appreciate such a move,” Stern said.

Really? That's surprising, but I guess that shows how bad the situation in Syria etc really is.

I've also been wondering this. Why aren't they taking some? They clearly could. Seems selfish tbh.

Yes I had seen the numbers but I can't find it anymore.. When you see the size of Gaza I can't take the argument of other countries saying "we don't know where to put them"...

Cocaine Heart

This doesn't really surprise me. Where the space for the Jews all across Europe comes from :smh:

But this also just reminds me of the fact that Saudi Arabia, Qatar and crew are just as selfish and useless.

We going to boo
