Finland's PM Sipila offers his home to refugees

HELSINKI (Reuters) - Finland's Prime Minister Juha Sipila said on Saturday he would offer his home to refugees.

As EU leaders struggle to agree policies to cope with a huge influx of migrants, many fleeing war in Syria, Sipila said his home in Kempele, northern Finland, was little used at the moment and would house asylum seekers from the start of next year.

"We should all take a look in the mirror and ask how we can help," Sipila told national broadcaster YLE.

He said an EU plan to distribute 120,000 refugees arriving in Greece, Italy and Hungary to countries around the European Union should be voluntary and hoped Finland could show an example.

Finland's government yesterday doubled its estimate for the number of asylum seekers in the country this year to up to 30,000.

It's ok to offer home to refugees but it doesn't solve the problem and the problem is in their countries...

No one said it solves the problem, but it's a great gesture not just ok. Not everyone is willing to do it. Doesn't Tony Blair own like 7 homes?

And the problem which is actually war, famine and terror in their countries was created and stirred up by the same Western leaders who now refuse to take more refugees.

It solves one problem which is the refugees needing a place to stay. And the situation in Syria is so complex and hard to 'fix' I doubt even politicians know what to do or know what should've been done. The best we can do is to accept the current refugees and at the same moment take care of the refugees in countries near Syria like Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon.

There's also different ways of stopping the humanitarian disaster that this is, a leftist and a rightist one. Leftists want more legal ways to ask asylum in Europe, and reopening of the borders so refugees can come here in less dangerous ways (like crossing the border in Bulgaria, which is not dangerous and had the border been open thousands of deaths could've been prevented). The rightist way is to make it as hard as possible to get into Europe based on the already falsified way of thinking that building fences and making it harder to get into Europe will help fight the refugee problem.
