STV Poll: Second poll shows increase for Scottish Independence

More than half of Scots would vote for independence if a second referendum were held tomorrow, according to a poll commissioned by STV.

The Ipsos Mori survey shows 53% would vote yes, 44% would vote no and 3% are undecided.

This is the first poll since the referendum last September which says the country would vote yes when those who are undecided are included.

The 1002 participants were polled between Monday and Sunday last week.

When asked if they supported a second referendum being held, 50% said they would support one in the next five years and 58% in the next ten.

If the UK voted to leave the EU, 52% would support another referendum, 41% if Trident were renewed and 50% if English votes for English laws were approved.

I don't understand why people would want a new referendum if the English devolution thing was approved, apart from I guess if those 50% are simply from the 'we want another referendum no matter what' camp.

To an extent I guess I do because it leaves Scotland (and to a far smaller extent NI and Wales) with less power over England only related issues but that just reeks of selfishness :oldsaladga:

It is because of our treatment by the tories and Labour. We werw promised devo-max. We are getting limited amount of devolution compared which was promised. Our country is still going down the gutter by a government Scotland DID NOT vote for.

It is because of our treatment by the tories and Labour. We werw promised devo-max. We are getting limited amount of devolution compared which was promised. Our country is still going down the gutter by a government Scotland DID NOT vote for. 

I get that argument in the wider context of the government suddenly focusing on devolution (sort of) for England rather than Scotland but how does that directly relate to whether or not England deserves the same right to autonomy as the other parts of the UK. Let's not forget that in 2003 university fees in NI, Wales and England were raised as a result of support from Scottish MPs we didn't vote for.

The way the government wants to do is they want to limit the Scottish MPs powers due to corruption. We would be unable to vote on the power we get.

They were Scottish Labour MPs yeah but they were still MPs elected in Scotland. It's a bit hypocritical to criticise English involvement in Scottish affairs yet happily accept Scottish involvement in RUK affairs.

Granted the SNP politicians at the time voted against the motion but individual party policies are irrelevant in this regard when the issue still remains. It's not just a Scottish thing though, Northern Irish politicians voting on the Westminster same s-x marriage bill was completely unnecessary too.

Granted the SNP politicians at the time voted against the motion but individual party policies are irrelevant in this regard when the issue still remains. It's not just a Scottish thing though, Northern Irish politicians voting on the Westminster same s-x marriage bill was completely unnecessary too. 

I ain't agreeing or disagreeing with what they did. They still had to follow the order of the infamous Tony Blair especially the chancellor at the time who had a Scottish seat. He would of lost his position if he abstained. 

The SNP MPs abstained they have a policy on not voting on non-Scottish issues until this year.  It is wrong but if we can't get independence right now then Britain should be a federal state.

Wouldn't independence be messy for Scotland, with the England outside the EU and the price of oil collapsed? Who'd want to be a wee bit of territory in the North Sea under Brussels control, while England and Norway and Iceland go their own way.
