This week, for the first time since 2006 (when digital sales were still becoming a thing), the number one digital selling song was below 100,000. The number one song this week is Locked Away by R. city featuring Adam Levine and sold 91,000. It's quite sad when you look at the number one selling songs of each week from the past few years and see many songs in the 300, 400, and 500 thousands. This year, we've seen most number one songs of each week selling in the 100 and 200 thousands with a few outliers. So goodbye digital, hello streaming. #RIPiTunes

More and more people used Spotify, Youtube and torrents to listen to music.

Why would anyone buy a digital song if you can listen to it from everywhere for free?

Most young adults don't have the money to be buying music when they can listen to the music for free, legally or illegally. The music industry's decline is just a part of the bigger picture. At least in the US, young adults are struggling to make ends meet due to crippling college debt and lack of decent jobs. Obviously, buying music isn't gonna be a priority for us. The overall economic state isn't helping either.

I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.
