Chic 20,830
aka you don't understand soul. it's an amazing piece of music. it's not britney-like so you dislike itWhat the absolute ****? There's a difference between soul and oversinging. I'm a fan of artists like Haley Reinhart, Amy Winehouse, etc. who do soul music right. This is not soulful, it is way overdone. Some parts are okay, but it is practically unlistenable. Don't opt for ad hominem attacks when you can't dispute your opinion correctly, it's pathetic. I prefer talking to people who can rationally discuss topics. Who even said I like Britney-esque music? My top five favorite artists are completely different from Britney. Artists like aretha franklin have done similar. it does not deserve to be attacked. it is wonderful. you dislike it, that's fine. don't insult it. Artists like aretha franklin have done similar. it does not deserve to be attacked. it is wonderful. you dislike it, that's fine. don't insult it.I didn't insult it, I critiqued it with specific reasons to back up my opinion. The difference between Jessie J on this song and Aretha Franklin is that Jessie is overdoing it way too consistently. It would be more respectably soulful if the whole song wasn't just her belting it out. By all means, call it technically impressive that she manages to do this, but it's really not that soul. It is not "above" critique. Artists like Amy do it right. The fact you think the song is above "insulting" when you just condescendingly implied I have an inferior music taste is incredible. I said that you like different types of music. people that like britney don't like soul 9/10 of the time.and no. Songs that are entirely belting it out are not automatically bad. listen to the real SNL performance. it sounds amazing with all the instruments. it is an art. it's soul. it's jazz. you don't like heavy belting songs, that's fine, but it doesn't deserve to be insulted. At most, I said it was bad technique, but that has a basis and I provided a reason for it. We obviously have very different opinions on what "soul" is, but I'll just say that simply because Jessie J is capable of having a soulful voice does not mean this "belting out" is considered soul. I'm not hearing the conveyance of any thought or emotion in her singing whatsoever, therefore I don't consider it soul. "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney is a beautiful song filled with soul, and that is art. "Hurt" by Christina Aguilera is soulful, and she's the original queen of oversinging. Jessie J is certainly capable of being soulful, but she doesn't hit the mark on this song. This simply isn't soul, in my opinion.

Red 94,526
I am curious to know the opinion on Cheek to Cheek from the people criticising her for over-singing If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.
Kanye West 1,676
I am curious to know the opinion on Cheek to Cheek from the people criticising her for over-singing Cheek to Cheek is a soft type of jazz. There is belting but there's no high energy big numbers like Mamma Knows Best. KANYEWEST.COM
