Is Gaga sincere about her integrity? (Read or don't post pls)

When Gaga signed with Interscope she wasn't huge yet.  She probably got a standard contract.  If she is huge at the time she negotiates her next contract, will a label be willing to do what they don't normally do ... give the artist freedom to choose the album contents, the singles, the videos, and the way the tracks are recorded?   Or would they forgo the chance at the large profit potential of Gaga in order to do business as usual with their other artists?

I live outside the space time continuum.

I don't think that Gaga changed for the bling. I'm sure she loves being rich, but I think that she hadn't had enough to say "f*ck it, I give up". A lot of things have happened and are happening behind the scenes that we don't know about, so we can't really know what she has been through or what could have been keeping her doing what she does and changing her mind (apart from the "I make music for my fans" thing).

I think that from the bottom of her heart, it kills her to have to compromise her art but there are a lot of factors why she would. She loves her fanbase, and if it means compromising herself for them, then I think she's willing to be a bit flexible. I don't know how the music industry works but I bet there are only so many things she can do legally unless she started her own label or something.

It's possible that she's wanted to quit pop music in the past but just didn't have the balls to do it or maybe realized how potentially irrational a decision like that could be.

I believe that if she had the management she still had before, she would have quit by now though because she only got to record music outside of the pop realm (C2C) when the shackles were loosened. I think she was right at the brink of quitting but instead she fought for her right to do what she wants and it seemed to have paid off in the end.

"I refuse to compromise and allow my talents to be monetized to the point that I don't even wanna be here anymore. I will stop. I will stop, I will quit, I will retire from the commercial market if I have to do something other than be myself because if I can't be myself in this moment then everything I have said to my fans since the beginning would be a total lie."

This quote has always fascinated me and left me frowning.

giphy.gif

It makes me think of Interscope editing her vocals on every album except Cheek to Cheek, MTV cancelling her first 2013 VMA performance, Gaga being criticized during the release of Applause because of her commercial tactics (fans having to buy Applause multiple times to win a meet & greet), Gaga admitting to hating releasing singles, not being able to decide what songs become singles or become album tracks,...

Also, in the same interview:

"There's many volumes of work over a long period of time that have just not been released to the public 'cause I've chosen not to put it into the system. (...) And yeah I have a whole second act of ARTPOP, I do, and I love it."

It's hard to harmonize the two quotes and Gaga's criticism of the industry on the one hand and her artistic output on the other.

I don't want to bash Gaga here, because I actually think that if she were free from the shackles of the music industry we'd see a whole other artist and she's not to blame for her inability to do whatever she wants now (actually I blame her fanbase more for that), but my question is: shouldn't she have retired from the commercial market a long time ago if she was actually serious about the quote at the top of this post?

When do you think Gaga will have had enough? What's the limit?

Do you think Gaga has and will change(d) herself for fame and profit and wasn't being sincere?

Do you think that Bobby and her new career era changed her mind?

What do you think would change if her fanbase stopped supporting Interscope's way of suppressing her as an artist?

Let's say she did retire, what would be your reaction?

Enough to discuss. Fire away & keep it nice.

So when she stops having fun doing what she loves and putting her ideas into the world via pop or whatever way she wants, she'll quit. So sometimes she doesn't like the business part of it. It doesn't mean she doesn't like the artistic and creative part.

Just because she doesn't like the order in which her singles are released don't mean she doesn't like what she is putting out there for the world to hear.

Why are you reading more into the quote than there actually is?

Shouldn't she have retired from the commercial market a long time ago if she was actually serious about the quote at the top of this post?

Nope...:kisses:

Artisits don't have expiration dates. They are not fruits.

Do you think Gaga has and will change(d) herself for fame and profit and wasn't being sincere?

Nope...

Is there a new direction of course, maybe she just doesn't want to do EDM anymore. Why does everything she does have to have some transcendental meaning lol

LOL so you're saying don't support what she does. You are transparent, just like entire post is transparent.

Let's say she did retire, what would be your reaction?

There is no need for her to retire, if she does I'd be happy for her, if she doesn't I'd be happy for her.

Schwerk

She can be a bit of a hypocrite but...

I think she means she wants to stay true to her art in her heart, despite all the chaos and 'mess' formed around her. The industry has a strong hold on artists, even Gaga.

She can't escape commercialism and she is business savy by nature. Trying to make her integrity and business side work together is her struggle. I just think she means she never shuts of her heart and just does it for the money or the fame. Shes wants to add something of herself to everything she does. She has proven this in the past with everything she's done.

The autotune thing is strange, but I see it as a side-effect of both her deep rooted insecurities (it never really goes away,or very slowly at least) and the fact that it's become the norm to the point where it's uncommon not to use autotune.

I think she just realized one day: ****, why the hell do I still use autotune to get a certain sound, I don't need that ****.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

NewYorkCity

But she actually said that after all those things you mentioned happened... almost a year later. Then, she released C2C a jazz album of covers with unretouched voice... so I don't see how she is a hipocrite. Maybe she just realised of all those things after they happened... she said she thought about quiting music at some point so...
