One thing that bothers me about Gaga's role in AHS

People who are successful usually have one trait in common. They go after what they want, they don't sit around hoping someone hands it to them. Gaga wanted to be in AHS so she asked for it. Good for her.   That's something to look up to, not a detriment.

I've learned that Gaga fans often take what she says too literally and invent "promises" she never made.

they are not using her for ratings.... ryan has been a massive fan of gaga for ages, i'm sure he was just super excited to get a call from her asking to be a part of the show - as was she. i think ryan knows having her on the show will probably help ratings, but with freak show getting the highest ratings of all the seasons, i don't think he's too bothered about this.

Why is it a negative? Gaga thought she would possibly be a good match for that TV show, so she called the producer. Did you expect her to show up at a cold call to try out to be one of the extras? What was she going to do...use her real name to try out? You know someone on set would have figured out that it was Gaga. 

She's a major celebrity. She doesn't need to go to a cold call. Ryan and his team will develop the script around the players they have assembled. Gaga will end up learning a lot from this process and can build on it in the future.

Why does everything Gaga does have to be picked apart to find any sliver of a negative slant, and by her own fans? Where is the fun in following an artist, if you are looking for the negative in every situation? 

Of course we do not know all of the details but it seems to me that the only reason why she was chosen for the role was because of who she is. I don't think this is true but what if Gaga was really awful at acting? Would you still think that she deserved the role?

Based on what she said in that interview a few years back, it seemed like she had respect for the film industry. She wouldn't want to take a role that was given to her because she is Lady Gaga and not because she was talented enough to accurately portray a character.

What bothers me is that maybe she lost some of that respect and took the role because she thought it would be a fun experience and because she can, not because she is talented enough to play that role.

Maybe she did go through some type of auditions process and then everything im saying doesn't matter. I just assumed that if Ryan Murphy didn't see her act, then she didn't audition. Now I realize there are other people who do the auditioning process and he doesn't necessarily have to be involved.

I do not pick apart everything Gaga does to try to find negative aspects. I actually love almost everything she does overall. I do however think it is fun to have debates on here. When there are little (or big) things that I don't agree with I like to discuss it to see how everyone else feels. Isn't that the whole point of a forum? To have discussions about positive and negative things?

People don't audition for AHS he tailor makes the roles. 

Yeah people dont understand that about Ryan Murphy. This isn't the first time he has written a role for somebody. I mean American Horror Story is an anthology... meaning he HAS to write a character for each returning actor before he knows whether they will really be able to execute that type of role. So....it's not just Gaga.

I think if she was really awful at acting, they would minimize her role as much as possible. they are excited to have Gaga, but the show is bigger than any one actor...that's a saying in the film industry and for stage productions. Its always about the show. not about one individual person. Ryan has built up a highly respected show here and has an excellent reputation in the TV industry. He's not going to let anyone take that away from him, no matter how famous they are.

I think due to Gaga's overall reputation and her background in theatre, she deserved a cameo spot here and there at least, but not a lead role. Once again, major celebrities (and seasoned actors) don't go in for cold calls. You have a private appointment to come in and read with others, which often times will be the casting department, as they have experience with acting and actors.

I've been thinking this and I hope it doesn't come off the wrong way, but I'm actually looking forward to seeing her perform in something that in no way involves music; something completely different and new.  At this point, I don't mind how she achieved this and if she's good, well, how it came to be won't matter - just that it came to be.  

How exciting it must be for an entertainer to have options on how to entertain, not simply in one area.  A whole new audience could be waiting for her (besides us).  :)

I expect doctors, teachers, clergymen, pilots, etc to adhere to a strong work ethic and code, not entertainers.  That's not good or bad, just the way it is.

I don't know if you remember but Gaga said she was not a feminist because she loved muscle cars and American Men Culture (I don't really remember the rest of it?) in an interview back in TF era. And now in a more recent interview from ARTPOP era she said she was a feminist. 

What I'm trying to say is changing is inevitable when everything around you is changing and we'll see if this thought of Gaga about auditioning will turn out OK when we watch the show. So it's all about the result.

gaga asked to be on the show, yes, but we dont know if she told ryan "put me on your show" or "can i get an audition to your show"?. i also heard Ryan Murphy wanted gaga in AHS since 2012 but couldn't do it because she was on tour
