gagzus 15,929
pretentious :attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed. She is claiming to have made a similar impact to IM when in reality she did not influence music. That is highly pretentious.she is the artist who started the current EDM trend with The Fame, she changed the fashion style of her peers/contemporaries and reinvented the way modern pop stars think about their performances back to how acts did them in the 80s.And I wouldn't call her pretentious, I'd call her ambitious.Y'all are acting as if this is something new, she's always been this ambitious since the beginning of her career, she used to state she was already famous on the Lower East Side's music scene, that she was the first true do-it-yourself pop artist since the 70s & 80s, she explained the concept of the fame and said pop stars were lazy when she arrived in 2008... And that's JUST from her debut era alone never mind all the ambitious statements she made in her other eras
gagzus 15,929
Also unlike many people here I'm not going to claim I know **** about Maiden despite being raised around their music and many other metal bands, I know nothing particularly advanced about them... I wouldn't give up your "pop critic" day job ladies if I were u

Jjang 2,262
she is the artist who started the current EDM trend with The Fame, she changed fashion and the way modern pop stars think about their performances. And I wouldn't call her pretentious, I'd call her ambitious. The music scene was filled with electronic dance music before she debuted with Just Dance. Rihanna : Don't Stop The Music, Disturbia.Britney Spears : Piece of Me, Womanizer.Madonna : Hung Up, 4 Minutes, Celebration.Flo Rida : Low.Lil Wayne : Lollipop.***cat Dolls : When I Grow Up.Chris Brown : Forever. As you can clearly see, all pop acts were already releasing electronic (dance) music and were achieving success with these efforts. She did not change fashion. She is known for her outrageous outfits and thats about it. I dont see her setting fashion trends.

I dont see her setting fashion trends. yes but look at how many electronic dance inspired pop songs existed and charted post her debut- for at least 4 years there were non-stop dance songs on the radio and still today there's EDM on the radio. Believe me she was a trendsetter.as for fashion where the hell where you from 2010 until 2013 when all her peers practically ripped off her fashion style at red carpet events, performances and music videos. Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry being the most notable, she even made Beyoncé change up et style during her late IASF era.gaga put the focus on haute cotoure designers and everyone jumped on it and some STILL do now

Look at the current pop contemporaries and compare them before and then after Gaga hit big. They all changed styles and Gaga turned big mostly because she was weird and fresh, yet had that commercial feel to it.
Swan Heart 7,382
I loved the interview. I live for how confident she has become again. People can stray pressed. You be as 'pretentious' as you want, Gaga. They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

I hope she does what she's happy and switches genres up a bit like @ZombieAphrodite has said multiple times throughout her career.

Bye 3,947
Critics have lauded Gaga for bringing electronic dance music to the forefront of pop music and yet her own fans feel the need to discredit her at every chance they get.
Morphine Prince 106,102
For the geniuses that don't get the Iron Maiden comparison: She's actually complementing US. She's saying that she believes her fans are as loyal as metal fans. She's saying being a Gaga fan is like a mini-culture just like being an Iron Maiden fan is. It is! I love this comparison. Wasn't sure why she was saying it before but now that we have the full quote I think it's amazing.
giskardsb 12,565
The Iron Maiden comment though... I hope you make it. You made a Jazz album and your fans almost committed collective unicorn suicide. Let's see how much of us will remain in the fanbase when we're 40 If her fans grow musically along with Gaga, they'll be here. If they are in their 40's and all they still care about is 'popping *** in the club" then I'm sure Disney will have provided yet another pop star du jour they can listen to.
