Whispering 18,865
Where the heck did I make it a contest? Can't you bring others suffering up without getting the card that I want to make it a competition. I made threads about Native Americans but people just don't care. I understood the posts that I quoted that they think that African Americans are the most discriminated group which I wanted to correct. Sorry if I misunderstood. I'm sorry that people don't participate in your threads, but that's a different issue, and once again off topic. The posts were saying that there is a high percentage of Blacks being affected by police brutality. It is a higher amount, because they make up a larger percentage of the population than some of the smaller minority groups. As I stated in my other comment you didn't bother to reply to....they have the numbers and momentum. If they can get something changed, it will change for the better for all citizens...including Native Americans.

And I didn't reply because I agreed and didn't want to continue the off topic Okay, I understand that. I think something has got to give, as the amount of unarmed people being gunned down is ridiculous! Like most Americans, I am shocked and appalled! Of course, not all cops are like this, but there is seriously something wrong with the way our police force is being trained and the toxic atmosphere that seems to be in at least some of our police departments across the country. Shadow 6,697
The bottom line is that police need to use restraint across the board and stop acting like the Gestapo to every citizen, including minorities. I'm glad at least the BLM is forcing the candidates to weigh on this issue or expose their indifference or ignorance. Stand in the light, cast your shadow. uo111 5,283
Well how does it work?divide the incident rate by the population, gives you a proportion. Having a smaller/larger population thus has zero effect on incedence rate
Shadow 6,697
I wouldn't compare the police to the Gestapo. Shooting unarmed civilians, racial profiling, disregard for human and constitutional rights... those who Abuse their power with guns... name such forces as you like. Gestapo is the reason for persecution of Jews,Romani etc. to send them to concentration camps. It would be not fair to the victims of Gestapo to compare it with American police because it's different. Not every Event can be found in history. What is happening in USA is horrible and not comparable to another event because it didn't happened like this before.

Also, you need to understand the concept of using hyperbole to convey a point. Stand in the light, cast your shadow.
Woolfsmck 2,763
Clearly the police policies in some communities needs to change. All black poverty stricken communities are crime centers as well, I broader approach to the problem needs to be developed because the current situation isn't working . like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. My words give a clue, look inside to see whats true

Also, American policeman who abuse their power tend to be individuals why the Gestapo pure evil. There were no innocents. Sorry, but I can't just let it stand it there. Again I exaggerated to make the point that abuse in power from authorities, as in the racial profiling and brutality against minorities like blacks, Native Americans, or Hispanics, is a slippery slope and could get worse if not addressed seriously. Not saying police in the U.S. are like in de facto the original Gestapo for obvious reasons... Back on topic, obviously Jeb and his supporters don't get the significance of the BLM movement... Didymus 34,380
They have the attention and the momentum, at this moment in time. If they can continue to get others on their side, the movement could end up causing a change in the way police treat citizens...all citizens, including Native Americans! This is very true. But what is, however, alarming is people who are in the movement or who support the movement saying that police violence is solely a black issue that doesn't affect other groups. And yes, I've seen that idea a lot of times on social media and even on this particular website. That's a danger that should be avoided at all costs. Which is why people like me and Simon have to remind people who genuinely aren't even aware of the seriousness of police violence for other racial groups (not just Native Americans btw). Asians, Latinos, Arabs, etc. All groups had their issues yet they all gained rights from a movement that was largely black motivated.

Understood but is that really enough reason for you to just let "police violence only affects the black community" comments slide? The way I see it, the more it's realized that the problem is even bigger than thought beforehand, the closer we get to a solution that benefits everyone involved. I don't know, I don't really get that logic.
