Elect wishy-washy candidates with large appeal but will lead this country into the ground just like our current president?

You do notice that's what we've been doing for the past 250 years, right? How do you suppose we'll elect a candidate that doesn't have a wide appeal? 

 

The American political system is faltered, and, thanks to the way it's set up, this is the way it has to be. I don't agree with it at all, but as long as the US allows the entire country to vote in general elections, candidates have to appeal to a wide audience, and not just far left youth on Tumblr and Twitter, even though they may be the best for the country.

Bernie Sanders is not a normal candidate. He's a socialist. If he's running there will be a massive amount of centre left voters that will instantly turn Republican. I'm talking about normal candidates that abide to their entire party's voters. Statistically, Republicans need a miracle to get the White House in 2016, and Bernie Sanders would be that miracle. 

That's what I'm thinking. I'll be interested to see what Nate Silver says about all this along the way, as it has already changed significantly in the last couple of months. I'm voting for the Democratic nominee, no matter who they are, as there is too much at stake. I am really more of an Independant, but the Republicans have become too like minded, tow the company line, types. The differences used to be more about the economy or government involvement instead of legislating morality and religious beliefs. I would love for some Republican to be moderate and see how the party, and voters in general, responded to them.

Why have faith in the unlikely when you can have assurance in the certainty? It's statistically impossible for Sanders to win an election. Running as a third party candidate, sure, he could get maybe a good 10%, but that would again take away far left votes for the democratic party, allowing for Republicans to get in, just as if Trump runs as a third party candidate (which he will) far right votes will be taken away from Republicans and Clinton will win the presidency. And far left youth are not the biggest voting demographic in the United States. Parties must choose candidates that can win elections, not ones that are perfect to the largest minority of the party. That's how you get Sarah Palin or Donald Trump. Maybe the majority of the Republican Party wants Trump as their candidate but it is 100% impossible for him to win the presidency. A trump presidential candidacy is the death of the republican party's run for the White House. It's the same with Bernie Sanders. Don't get me wrong, I prefer Bernie against Clinton, but Bernie is a free and fast ticket to a Republican win that would otherwise be unlikely.

I like Bernie Sanders more than any other candidate but let's be real, he is not going to win and every vote that goes to him is a vote for Trump. Hillary and Trump are the only candidates who can win the election. 

I may have a different point of view on politics since I grew up in another country but people seem to forget that politics are not always fair. As a voter you have to do your research and a--lyze the situation. Everyone's vote is important.

I mean you're right, but at the same time adding a woman into the White House would change so many political and social dynamics. Women have came so far these last 4 or 5 decades. Let's keep the progress moving.

Agree 100%. I can see right through her. She comes off as fake. Sadly people will go in with her being a woman and being "progressive!" and will run to vote. Similar to 2008 when people rushed to vote and make racial history.

That's called politics, and it's not fair, just, good, or a cakewalk. Clinton, no matter what you or Fox News likes to say, is incredibly accomplished and has a massive understanding of Foreign Policy as well as the handling of the presidency. I don't agree with everything she says, far from it, but she is the best possible candidate for the presidency that can win the election, that's undeniable. Her policies would be revolutionary for the United States as well. Voting rights to all American citizens at 18? That's unheard of. As well as continuation of Barack Obama's work, allowing it to flourish into applications for the American people unlike Republican candidates that would fight for it to be repealed. Hilary Clinton may be full of problems, but she's the best out of a pile of horribleness. 

If you think choosing the president is as simple as "oh, he's the most forward thinking and progressive. Let's prop him up for our party and have him run against whatever the Republicans throw at us" then you're the one that has a serious misunderstanding and limited view of the American political process.
