Head Empty 25,071
Exactly, I cannot."Marilyn, Judy, Sylvia. Tell em' how you feel girls. Work your Jonbennet Ramsey, we'll haunt like Liberace."To..."My mom and dad think I'm a mess, but it's alright because, I am rich as piss."The intention of these two lyrics is completely different though. Gaga wrote Mary Jane Holland with an entirely different purpose than Dance in the Dark, and purposely uses a different style of lyrics.(the next part is a general response, not directed personally at you, SlaeUrAnus)Most of the things I read in this thread are a case of what Gaga has called "People take me both way too seriously, and not seriously enough". She introduced the ARTPOP era as being "more immature" than her previous work. Most people interpreted that completely the wrong way, and started interpreting that as meaning "more fun dance music". What Gaga really ment is that she was consious of the fact that a lot of the songs were 100% egocentric, and did not always serve a higher purpose. The only reason that a lyric like "My mom and dad ... rich as piss" seems silly, is because Gaga literally didn't give two ****s about impressing people with poetry or deeper meaning at that point. It is not meant to be taken seriously like DITD. And in that way it entirely matches the spirit and purpose of that song. At that point, she did not care about being a good daughter. She did not care about being a good artist. She just wanted to have a good time. And that means that not only the words, but also the intention and thought behind each lyric reflect that. This is what I think a lot of people tend to forget when talking about the albums and songs. The purpose with which the music was written is so different in each era, that comparing it at face value doesn't really work. Obviously everyone will have different preferences lyrically, and it's fine to enjoy one album more than the other. But saying that one album is smarter or more well-constructed than the other based details like that is a little skewed, because you lose perspective of the bigger meaning with which Gaga wrote each piece. Happiness will never last, darkness comes to kick your ass... ᵃˢˢ 🕺
MasterOfPuppets 170
Born This Way > The Fame Monster > The Fame > ARTPOP I have to agree with this ARTPOP sadly just did't wow me the way her other albums have.
GagaUnderYou 4,981
If ARTPOP was more successful than TFM then everyone would declare ARTPOP as her best album. Gaga only gets greater each album.
