Music not the bling? Why not music AND the bling?

The Prodigy did that a full year before Madonna.

Completely different genre, though. That album was big beat, which is an EDM genre, hell yes, but nobody is crediting Madonna for inventing EDM. Ray of Light set the trend of artists outside that genre (pop artists mainly, duh) borrowing from dance music.

I always believed that what Gaga meant with the "Bling" is sort of like a bonus from what she usually makes with music. She doesn't make music for the bling, but if the bling does come to her, it's kind of a "why not" situation and she might as well take it then make something out of it (her fashion and stage charisma are big examples).

Experimental doesn't always have to do with sound. These aren't catchy loves songs about school crushes. They comment on an aspect of society, to convey a specific emotion or mood, and they address a personal psychology. You are missing the point completely. I can tell you are missing the point by using terms like "indie pop" and posting artists like Twigs. Indie pop is an oxymoron. You can't be both. FKA Twigs is just a Cirque du Soleil soundtrack with a bunch of curse words thrown in. A better example would have been Goddess Bjork.

this is the most ignorant thing i've ever read in this thread.

Kylie Minogue Impossible Princess...1997

So I guess you're just actively searching for ways to discredit Madonna now :rip: Kylie would've been more logical than The Prodigy :derpga:

In any case, again you're missing the mark. Kylie wasn't even the first to introduce trip hop (which doesn't even qualify as EDM) to Europe. But anyway, Kylie did not introduce a new trend (the album wasn't even successful), ROL is not trip hop inspired (the influences are entirely different) and ROL did actually set a trend as any person who isn't out to criticize Madonna will recognize looking at the facts.

No. I am just saying there is no need to credit her for everything, like her wiki page. I guess you haven't heard the Impossible Princess album it is both experimental and EDM and done before ROL. I am not bashing Madonna. I said she was a trend setter until Erotica. Everything after Erotica was just following trends. I happen to like ROL, BedTime Stories, COD, and Music. They are great albums, but not trend setting. An album doesn't have to be successful to introduce trends...ask Erotica which by no means was considered a successful album in 1992. Amazing trend setting album yet unsuccessful.

Can we please end this conversation? We'll just agree to disagree. You can have your opinion and I'll have mine.

There was no trend of EDM in pop music in 1997. I get your "Kylie did it first" argument, but that doesn't mean Kylie set the trend. Madonna may have clearly been inspired by Impossible Princess, for sure, but that doesn't mean Ray of Light isn't the trendsetter for EDM sounds included in pop music. Ray of Light's humongous success set the trend, no matter if Madonna was the first to come up with the idea. You claim that Madonna set trends until Erotica but she wasn't doing anything particularly extraordinary then either, she always borrowed.

Erotica as a music album never set a trend either, so not sure where you're getting that from. It seems to me that you equate trend setting with the albums you like or something. In any case, the subject's not important enough to discuss endlessly, but it's just a simple truth that Ray of Light set a trend, whether the idea was new or not. That's not exactly an amazing, Madonna praising moment, but that's why I'm asking you to believe I'm saying it, not as a fan but as an observer :usrs:

I don't recall you saying that, first of all, second of all, that's quite a weak response to posts that aren't even fuelled with animosity. If you're not interested in defending your opinion against valid counter-arguments then don't post it to discredit someone else's.
