Belgian Sexologist Goedele Liekens teaches UK Teenagers About Sex

I think it's a good thing to have on here since many of you younger users live in the UK or in the US, where s-x education is not very evolved in the school systems. I posted it in the entertainment section here since it's now a TV show on Channel 4 but a topic like this needs mainstream attention. Article about the show, the woman behind it (she's a UN ambassador and has visited countless countries and raised a lot of awareness for illegal female circumcision) and what it could mean for the UK. None of the girls in the test group knew the correct female anatomy. A definite eye-opener.

Goedele Liekens is a Belgian s-x educator. Thanks to people like her, teenage girls in the Low Countries can draw an accurate diagram of a vagina. In the UK, seven out of 10 of teenage girls have no idea where the clitoris is. British s-x education in schools is an oxymoron. It focuses on s-xual health and entirely bypasses s-xual pleasure.

So hats off to Hollins Technology College in Accrington, which invited the likeable Liekens to run an intensive and bracingly explicit crash course for 13 volunteers aged 15 and 16. In Sex in Class (Channel 4) she found that the state has subcontracted the tricky subject out to the **** industry with its phallocratic norms. The heart sank as bratty lads expressed revulsion for female pubic hair and socratically explained where – and indeed why – a young man may legitimately spread his seed without asking first. Liekens’s task was twofold: to persuade the boys to unlearn the macho disrespect of women they’d picked up from distorted ****o scenarios, while educating the girls to believe that they had a right to a voice in the bedroom. They were all given homework: the boys took home shaving kits to discover just how uncomfortable self-depilation can be, while the girls were given hand mirrors and encouraged to explore themselves.

Was Britain ready to go Belgian? The school’s sceptical teachers were won over. Meanwhile, Liekens went to London to see if she could get s-xual pleasure made a GCSE subject. She met the chairman of the parliamentary select committee on s-x education to lament British ignorance of the clitoris. A computer programme recording their conversation interrupted with a robotic voice: “I don’t know what that means.” It’s going to be an uphill battle.

There could have been more information about how much s-x these kids really have (as opposed to claim to have). And it would have been helpful to know if **** really is less influential in Belgium. In the mean time, this lively and unabashed film should be shown in every GSCE class in the country, to educate the educators as well as their students. By the end the boys were showing much more respect to the girls. And when one girl eventually found the courage to put a boy in his place, you wanted to cheer her to the heavens.

What? She's an amazing woman. She's a brilliant advocate for women's rights and the fact she operates on an international level is inspirational.

Look at this documentary on female genital mutilation she worked on and tell me she isn't an amazing woman for bringing all of these taboo topics into mainstream media. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8lV1z4zy7g There's a reason she's able to visit with politicians and world leaders everywhere... She's a very well educated psychologist and s-xologist.

I love that she's crossed the sea to spread the word. Many teenagers seem very confused about s-x. Especially girls who feel they have to fit the ****star mold to be considered s-xy or beautiful.

Go Goedele!

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

I remember how during high school in Spain, I got tons and tons of ''safe s-x'' talks and none of them said a word about gay safe s-x. They barely talked about AIDS or anything close to it and it made me feel so isolated in class.

This doesn't just apply to gay men s-x, I'm pretty sure queer women have doubts and questions when they're teenagers, questions they can't ask their parents, and no one every answers them during these talks.

Ah, heteronormativity.

The UN mission she's been on for 10 years pushed back 95% of Somalian female genital mutilation in that decade. Let her get her coins.

Ah, heteronormativity.

In Belgium and the Netherlands it's more commonly talked about. In Belgium we have a website called "Everything About Sex" which hold ALL of the information and also talks about gay and lesbian s-x in detail. It's heavily promoted in all schools starting at the age of 12/13 during the first year of middle school.

I honestly thought women urinate and give birth through of the same hole until they talked about it on Orange is The New Black :toofunny::toofunny::toofunny: We had a health class my Freshman year and we didn't even talk about s-x.

OH.MY.GOD.

Are you kidding me? No wonder the States and the UK are such messed up places when it comes to s-x. How is that possible? It's so important!

And the Republicans want to quit funding Planned Parenthood in the US... One of the only places where teenagers can go with their questions. I swear to god if a Republican makes it into the White House next year, y'all are doomed. Everyone's focused on jobs and the economy and while that is of incredible importance, the female, equal and human rights the Republicans attack constantly are just mind boggling to us Europeans. You deserve better education, I feel sorry. It's not your fault. It's your government.
