http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/germanys-birth-rate-lowest-in-the-world-according-to-study-10286525.html

Germany now surpassed Japan as the new Country in the world with the lowest birth rate. Germany's birth rate now stands at 8.2 births per 1000 population while Japans stands at 8.4 per 1000

Japans demographics however will remain worse than Germanys for the foreseable future as higher immigration in Germany than Japan offsets the low birth rates

Japan and Germany lead the world on a global trend of ever falling birth rates... Earths population is expected to peak at 9 Billion in 2050

tho this may be good news from an environmental stand point, an aging population is already having economic impacts as more retirees strain pension and social security finances, lower productive capacity, and raise healthcare costs

In my personal(largely uninformed) opinion it seems like the most logical steps to take would be to change the world's outlook on the elderly. People retire far too soon for the life expectancy of today's people, and that problem will only get worse as newer generations grow to live even longer. If we all continued to work into our seventies a lot of the aforementioned economic downsides to an aging population could probably be lessened

I'm sure this will happen in the future. They made Greece increase their retirement age so the German government must be somewhat aware of the need.

If things get too bad for them, they can always take in more asylum seekers. :sis:

u nailed it. Ive said this over and over...

birth rates are dropping and on top of that people live longer than they used to (though really life expectancy has stalled at 80 years and isnt likely to rise much further unless we can actually slow down aging)

the system wasnt designed to have so many people withdrawing from pension funds and so few deducting... Also thats a smaller percentage of people actually being productive and generating wealth. Retired people rely soley by robbing the purchasing power of those working that must share it with them. America is getting close to full employment yet the economy is not even close to what it was before and a falling laborforce participation rate may be to blame. The full productive capacity and economic activity the Country can handle with a labor force participation rate at only 62% has been dimished. Technological advancements to increase peoductivity may help but wont totally offset that productive loss

Your 100% correct. Retirement age at 65 is outdated and should be risen to at least 68 but people complain as usual at the prospect of makig sacrafices to fix an issue
