Robyn Releases New EP/Mini-album (& La Bagetelle Magique, "Love is Free")

On last year's collaboration with Röyksopp, Do It Again, and 2010's Body Talk, Robyn made the dance floor her therapy couch, singing of breakups, feeling like a broken cyborg, and all the **** that was killing her over addictive electro-pop. It's exactly this bruised-but-headstrong expertise, built up over two decades as a writer and performer, that imbues Robyn's music with a sort of welcoming trust. So, when she takes a step back in the thumping opening track of Love Is Free, "Lose Control", to say, "Hey, tell me all about your mistakes/ Tell me 'bout the love and the pain/ I know somebody hurt you some way," you might believe her and give it all up.

Her long time keyboardist Markus Jägerstedt and the late producer Christian Falk. (Christian had worked with Robyn on Dream On back in 2005 and they remained really good friends. He passed away last year from pancreatic cancer.)

I like it, but it's not as good as Do It Again. At least, I feel that way about it.

She still has to deliver good visuals for this mini-album though. I hope she can at least match the genius that were the videos for Do It Again.

oh but Royksopp are on a completely different league and they were aiming for different outcomes as well. I guess I find this EP fantastic because of the organic process behind it and how natural it feels.

I also believe Do It Again is fantastic, don't get me wrong. There's some type of magic between Royksopp and Robyn that cannot be compared, you know? So IMO they're both good EPs but they're only making my thrist for new solo music from Robyn even bigger.
