Anyone who makes an absolute statement beginning with "anyone who thinks otherwise" is likely trying to avoid a proper debate. :emma:

What is there to debate? The U.S gun crime/murder rates are atrocious compared to countries that adopted gun licensing laws following shocking gun massacres such as Australia. Those statistics aren't debatable. I honestly don't see any argument that can justify the school shootings, theatre shootings, children finding their parents guns and shooting themselves or others.

I'm not advocating for the banning of guns all together. I'm advocating the government taking just a tad of responsibility of them enabling all these things to happen and just introducing a licensing program - look 20 years in the future instead of 20 minutes should something like that be introduced. It works in the long run.

If the state took control, none of the other amendments would "protect" people. That's not an argument for taking away constitutional rights.

There is a reason you are banned from so many sites. Obviously, you aren't as right as you think you are. Everyone already knows your lame game.

"Licencing"? What does that entail? Be specific. How will requiring a licence help? You can't deny law-abiding citizens access to this proposed licence - that's unconstitutional. So the people go get their licence and... uh... you end up with all the same people having all the same guns.

It's just a matter of time...

In my state you must hold a genuine reason for having particular types of guns and reasons they are necessary to have for other, more dangerous types of guns.

Genuine reason = sports (must be active member), recreation (must own hunting land or have permission from government), business (i.e. security), working in rural areas that require firearms and a member of a club that genuinely collects firearms.

People wanting to obtain a license must also complete and pass a firearms safety course and must wait an additional month for the license to be issued. You must also pay for licenses and are only valid for the years you pay for. They must also be deemed responsible to own a firearm without presenting danger to the Australian public, such as personal history checks where someone with an AVO or for 10 years following the expiration of an AVO, someone who has been convicted within the last 10 years for almost any crime, or is under a good behaviour bond etc cannot be issued a gun license and therefore cannot obtain a gun. Certain occupations are also subject to a probation period.

You think a fair amount within 23 million people are bothered to a) develop or force a genuine interest in collecting firearms, b) acquire the appropriate occupation to own a gun, or c) seek permission to hunt grounds just so they can obtain a gun?

Well, here's your problem. All of that is unconstitutional in the extreme. It's certainly not going to happen in America in our lifetimes. Consider that the Supreme Court in 2008 struck down a law requiring guns to be kept locked up as unconstitutional. Americans have a constitutional right to have firearms for self-defence.

Even amongst the American public, support for strict gun control has been steadily dropping since the early 90s.9gQqqC7.png

This kind of scheme only "works" in Australia because your constitution, culture and situation are entirely different. Even the great majority of those who are actually affected by these regulations oppose them.

Suggesting America scrap a cherished part of the constitution is unrealistic. It's just not going to happen.

how about the reason

i'm poor and live in a poor area with crips, bloods, nortenor and surenos everywhere and i've been robbed before and i'm pretty sure a guy living down the street has a beef with my brother.

my neighbors have had their houses shot at before and wake up to gunshots in my neighborhood some nights :saladga: i'm supposed to act like i'm just being paranoid and have no justification for wanting a gun to protect myself.  its not like the police have the quickest response time to my neighborhood either

ah w/e.  i just repeat myself every time this tye of crap comes up and nobody gives a **** anyways

edit: btw criminals dont get their guns legally :green: its not like if you outlaw them , they wouldnt be able to get them now. it will just create a black market and make more money for criminals like the d--g cartels who would sell them

I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.

Jjang

I still don't understand how the US government hadn't invested more money on security in public places / areas. Crazy.
