That's not hunting for sport though, that's hunting for the sake of stabilizing a population and keeping a sensitive ecosystem alive. Hunting for sport is shooting animals for fun.

Well yeah, but my dad hunts and he doesn't do it as a job, it's his hobby but because of the rules it's also beneficial to the ecosystem.

No, but there should be strict regulations on what animals and how many you can hunt in a year. That's what's in my country at least and it helps animals from overpopulating because we have a lot of forests  

May I ask which country? Isn't there a way to spread out overpopulating species to other areas?  However, I understand the need for a balanced ecosystem, but I wish people today applied the way some Native American tribes hunted. Those that hunted the buffalo managed to use numerous parts of the body to get the most out of it, as not to waste.

Humans need like 5% of the meat average Westerners consume per week. And who can honestly say they eat to maintain their bodily health? Most people eat for fun, so the animals get killed for that purpose. So there's no difference whatsoever, especially since slaughterhouses kill animals before they even know they'll be bought.

So then you're saying that the brutality of the killing or the killing itself isn't actually important at all, he just should've gone and killed a monkey or something and everything would've been fine. I doubt the outrage would be tempered.

But I'd be happy to see unnecessary animal hunting off the map too. Just not the one without the other. The global systematic breeding and/or murdering of animals for meat humans don't need in that quantity is way more dramatic than one lion getting sacked, forgive me for the bluntless.

Meat is protein and humans need meat plus the food chain in life is set by nature and it's not just science hearsay like a lot of vegans seem to believe, as long as the animals are killed humanely there's nothing to worry about.

Animal meat consumption can only be justified by the millions the industry feeds. As you said, it is an issue that is a bigger fish to fry.  However, this hunting for game, even the fishing and hunting of whales and seals. Everything that makes hunting some game,  or black market for makeup, oils, or even use of the bones or body for decorating the hunter's home, even fashion clothes, like foxes, otters, and raccoons. 

All that can be chalked up as not humane nor necessary for food or survival. 

Thus, I feel is a more pragmatic and practical issue to tackle, maybe for a world forum, or UN Council.  Governments talk about global warming being an issue, well if humans applied more value in nature as a whole and the importance of upholding and up keeping our ecosystem, humanity would be of a better mind to find solutions to other environmental problems.  This includes businesses and organizations as well as individuals and wealthy enthusiasts.

I live in Finland, where hunting is still a big thing  idk I'm no expert, but because we have so much forest would separating the moose and different kinds of birds to a new area make a difference because they're everywhere

Only a tiny portion of the meat normal people consume. And there are protein in like a ton of non-meat products, don't even And if it's only the humane element you care about, then do you agree with humane hunting for sport if the animal doesn't suffer? If you don't, then you're gonna have difficulty coming up with a good defense.

But the people that kill cows/chickens for markets slaughter brutally as well, and I bet they have just as much fun doing it as the lion killer did. Honestly, this isn't a big deal.

edit: To clarify, I don't endorse the actions of the lion killer or other people that kill animals as a sport/for fun. I'm just saying this has been going on forever, and now that media sensationalizes it, you guys care?
