Should hunting for sport be outlawed?

After encountering this story about Cecil the lion who was under a study was killed by a hunter from Minnesota, it left me sickened, disturbed, and saddened. I'm no animal lover who values them over humans, but I do respect and admire the creatures we share this planet with. I had a dog when I was younger, who one of the best friends I've had and I've come to respect life in its many forms with reason and understanding the laws of nature.

Observe the following report:

We live in a world where we became the dominant species since we don't have a superior predator that we have to flee and run from, besides those that encroach on the territory of wild predators like bears, sharks, lions, and/or others. Now, I understand hunting for food, if people live in areas of the world where they don't have access meat from farms or markets. However, I never understood how hunting creatures in their habitat and killing them, and at times clamping them for their heads or some hideous form of taxidermy.  Could you imagine if treated humans this way?

No, but there should be strict regulations on what animals and how many you can hunt in a year. That's what's in my country at least and it helps animals from overpopulating because we have a lot of forests

Animal meat consumption is a way bigger fish to fry imo.

But I'd be happy to see unnecessary animal hunting off the map too. Just not the one without the other. The global systematic breeding and/or murdering of animals for meat humans don't need in that quantity is way more dramatic than one lion getting sacked, forgive me for the bluntless.

Yes, the only way hunting should be legal is if its for a food source, and i mean an actual food source not 'i live 5 mins away from a supermarket but i went out and killed something and its ok cause i ate it'

I literally do not understand why anyone would want to kill another living thing unless they had to, and definitely not for 'fun' or 'sport'

I don't think so. I think hunting animals that are protected or endangered should absolutely be outlawed but hunting animals like deer really doesn't hurt anybody (in fact it curbs the deer population).

actually it's plenty of poor men and women who want to kill animals as well?

Yes.

The entire world is discussing race privilege when in reality being a human being is the biggest & most unfair privilege out there.

Of Course

I know ppl r gonna drag but even hunting animals especially endangered ones for FUR should be outlawed

(Wearing leather is ok as long as its not coming from a rare/endangered species)

Yes it should be outlawed and those who are caught should be boiled alive and have their skin peeled off by forceps one by one till it's all gone and have arrows shot at their exposed flesh and their living carcass tied to a safari truck and driven for 10 miles till the dirt road sears the meat off their bodies and they're left with nothing but a wasted lump of existence that they are.

That's not hunting for sport though, that's hunting for the sake of stabilizing a population and keeping a sensitive ecosystem alive. Hunting for sport is shooting animals for fun.

What I have yet to figure out is why it seems most of these people have their photo taken with the dead animal/s and are smiling like they just accomplished something.  Breeding animals for food such as on farms aside, why would someone be "happy" they just hunted something and killed it in cold blood?  How is that a sport?  If the human wants a sport, don't bring the gun.  We'll see who is 'survival of the fittest' then.  Again, I'm only talking about the people who think this as a game, not anything else.
