Boy George praises Lady Gaga, Talks Madonna comparison.

The first question concerns me a bit. It seems like, because Gaga "toned down" her image for this era (and the Oscars performance), the media now thinks she's going to be doing that permanently. What happens when she goes back to her crazy outfits and haute couture for LG5? Are they going to say she's taking a step backwards? :cryga:

i'm afraid so..

Hope the music slays

No, I'm trying to find the balance between obsessively hating on Madonna and blindly worshipping Gaga. If you have the gift to see a context, you'd comprehend that all I'm saying is that we should respect and acknowledge Madonna's influence on Gaga, but at the same time we should not discredit Gaga's artistry and individuality.

This is a Lady Gaga fan forum, not a worship Gaga on a mindless level forum. I have hundreds of favorite artists, my taste swings from artists like Madonna and MJ to Tracy Chapman and Iron Maiden. So just because I'm on a Gaga forum (because I appreciate her as an artist) doesn't mean that I should suddenly forget all of my other favorite artists and not defend them when due.

look.

I know gaga was influenced by madonna, it was so obvious, she even thanked her on The Fame CD booklet, i respect Madge's past work and iconic legacy, but its not mindless worshipping to aknowledge that Gaga has had an impact in pop culture, and that she's a true talented musician and vocalist even tho her voice isnt the strongest she knows how to work with it.

Did I ever deny Gaga's talent?

Exactly! "Telling a story" is a concept that is used in many genres, especially Country music and with singer-songwriter types. Musical theatre is a step beyond that, and you are 100 per cent on the right track, with Gaga having a theatrical voice! It's in her actual vocal technique...it's always been there. That's why Gaga was one of the 10 to 15 (out of a couple of thousand who tried out) who got into the CAP 21 program at NYC. Her vocals had to be excellent and theatrical! I agree, that's a clear and obvious difference between Gaga and Madonna.

Madonna does too.

SOMEONE WHO GETS IT. She's why I began listening to mainstream music. And I still don't like much pop music. My library consisted of musical OBC recordings ????

Yes!!! Musical Theatre nerd here!

I'm sure that's why I've been drawn so strongly to Gaga! There is a heavy influence in her vocals and in her performances. THAT influence is the biggest influence, by far, in her work as a whole. Boy George nailed it...those are her roots!

True. I mean, Russell Crowe was Javert in the Les Mis movie musical. :udidnt:

Being cast in a movie musical and actually having a voice that is designed for the Musical Theatre stage are two ENTIRELY different things!

Talent wins in the end. Sorry Madge stans!

OMFG how dare you just come straight at us? In the Madonna Thread you don't see ANYTHING Gaga in there. You guys are the ones who always bring up the "Madonna who" comments and the ones who have been keeping the feud alive all these years. Not gonna it's both sides but Madonna never said Gaga copied her, it was all about one song in 2011. that year that u guys REFUSE to get over

I love Madonna and I think she has a nice tone but she's by no means a good vocalist. The performances shown in this thread are very average, and her voice is too subtle with a very limited range to be called theatrical.

The intro of Government Hooker is a good example. Some parts of Venus are too.

Gaga has always kept her voice potential to the minimum in her songs. I think that's why the Oscars performance was so unexpected.

That is true, no one ever talks about Gaga in the Madonna thread yet the same cannot be applied vice versa, and later on "the Madonna fans" will receive the bad reputation. Only because they reply to stimulating, ignorant remarks made about Madonna. Shame how things work around here.
