Does Loving Gaga Makes You Feel Gay or Less of a Man?

Do you honestly think the sole act of being a fan of Lady Gaga will affect your s-xuality or masculinity? I mean, there are ignorant people who think that listening to music targeted towards women and gay men is detrimental to one's masculinity and heteros-xuality, but do you really wanna validate their opinions?

I also think that we place too much value on masculinity, and that it doesn't really matter if one becomes "less of a man," but that's another discussion.

Music does not define the individual.  You define yourself and anything else is just a lazy generalization by people who do not know you.

Stand in the light, cast your shadow.

It depends, I guess. If you appreciate her talent, voice and performance ability there's nothing "wrong" but when you think she's a goddess queen who slays on all your favs and you cry while you line up at her concerts in a costume.. :Chica:

I think Gaga herself actually made this happen & that will always be one of my biggest disappointments.

:omg: I will never NOT go to a Gaga concert without wearing an extravagant costume. Unless it's something like Cheek to Cheek, that is :emma: dressing up, losing your mind, being "obsessed", it's all part of the superfan lifestyle. Gags did it for Britney and NSYNC and we get to do it for her

I don't think anyone is literally psychotic with being a fan/Monster. If they are :Chica: someone help ha...

Gay people are assumed straight from birth. Baby boys smile at a girl and it's "Oh look he's flirting with you!", they go to school and it's "I think little Johnny has a girlfriend!", go to high school and they're asked "Do you have a girlfriend?" etc. etc.

Basically everyone is assumed straight until they either announce their orientation or very outwardly express it.

Straight fans, you can deal with people thinking you might be gay when you say you are a Gaga fan. Gay people have been dealing with people assuming they're straight their whole life. It's really not so bad.

Tbh Gaga's music is less for LGBT+ people and more for people who struggle with their own identity and certain social problems (admittedly, though, those problems are all too common in the LGBT community).

I'm straight to. The music and philosophy behind her artistry makes me a really big fan. I like to communicate with you guys about all the moves she makes and things. But topics like these and all the other dramatic things makes me an other form of fan then you guys haha.

The only thing that would make you gay is if you find people of the same s-x attractive nothing else. Liking certain music or activities don't have anything to do with s-xual orientation. Hopefully this answers that.

this tbh :applause:

Yes, whoever says otherwise is a lying.

If a "straight" man is a Lady Gaga fan, he's at least pleasured himself to gay **** or touched a penis at some point in his life. Again, any denial of that fact is a lie.

Don't be ridiculous.

I'm straight and I love how Gaga is committed to helping people and spreading kindness and is a kind person herself.  I think she is a remarkable person, but I'm not in love with her.

I think she has a huge number of straight fans, including some on GGD.

I live outside the space time continuum.

Your taste doesn't define your s-xuality. Gaga just happened to reach out to the gay community early on in her career which is why she is adored by so many members of the LGBT community. So liking Gaga's artistry has nothing to do with your s-xual orientation.

Why is s-xual orientation coupled with the music I like? These are two different subjects. I don't need mixed messages to know what I like. :crossed:

I am wondering: What makes Katy's music more open to straights? What keeps gay people from enjoying metal or alternative?

Katy Perry is not as threatening to heteronormativity. Katy is much more conventional and s-xualized than Gaga. Gaga's whole shtick to the GP was othering herself (which of course decreases s-xual attractiveness for many people), and her LGBT activism forever associated her with LGBT people*. For the homophobic, Lady Gaga stigmatized herself by doing this. This may continue until/unless Gaga achieves legend status.

*The funny thing is that most people don't take her own s-xuality into account. Some don't even know she's bis-xual and thus part of the LGBT community herself.

From what I know, the metal fanbase has a reputation for being homophobic. This is probably because metal is considered "manly," and people who are proponents of heteros-xual masculinity wouldn't be too kind to those who break gender or s-xual norms. This doesn't necessarily reflect the views of the musicians themselves, but I'm most definitely not a fan of metal, so I wouldn't know.

There are definitely a lot of gay people who listen to alternative. Alternative music in general attracts a more liberal and sensitive audience, so there isn't as much homophobia in the fanbase. Like in pop music, the women of alternative music tend to have significant LGBT followings. Radiohead also has one, though that may just be because their overall fanbase is huge and not because they have a specific appeal to LGBT people. Remember that alternative covers a lot of subgenres. As weird as it may seem, both Nirvana and Lorde can be considered alternative (for example). Not all alternative music has the sort of macho essence that other forms of rock have.

I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.

why can't a straight guy be a fan of a female's music? every artist has their fair amount of "gays". Gaga is just a heavy advocate for gay people

I just wish her fanbase were more diverse. I never said a straight guy couldn't be a female musician's fan. :fat:

Im pretty confused With all these things you brought up to me. You see i dont think im a little monster anymore (its more clear to me now) but just a plain o fan. I like gaga because she stands up to her visions not considering if it will be praised or not. I dont care about what she wears or what her gimmicks are. I just like/love Gaga and her music. And if loving her makes me gay then ill probably stick to eminem.
