In the panning shot of the ocean at the end of the episode, is the red stuff in water, algae or dead sea life/fishes?

Because I thought the infection didn't affect animals.

This is sort of what I was hoping to get from this series. I would have liked to have learned something new about the infection while there were supposedly highly educated specialists still alive.

That is also what I thought for a moment.  I thought there was also going to be a reveal on the boat to show or explain something.

You bring up a good point about having scientists still around.  I thought we'd learn something new too, but I guess they didn't want to possibly contradict the core show, TWD. So they didn't go into it.  I wonder... is it a virus, is it an experiment by the govt. gone awry, how did this start exactly?  I guess we'll never know.

I thought it would have been cool, and some much-needed comic relief - if the camera would have panned out to the boat and Tobias would have been steering the ship. Don't know how that would have happened, but hey. If Daniel can successfully lead a hungry group of recently turned zombies, Tobias can man the ship.

I also dug Nick's quote. I can't remember exactly but it ended with people are just now catching up to the world he feels he's been living in. I like that they had Travis put his ex out of her misery. He's been so optimistic throughout but he must learn hard choices are to be made now if he wants to keep the remainder of his family alive.

I feel that all will make it to the ship (besides Liza of course).  I thought going to the coast is a great idea and wish they would have done that in TWD as based on evidence we've seen, the Walkers can't swim or at least not well.

Looking forward to S2 when it happens but glad that I have a lot of Walkers to get through first!!  And Daryl... can't forget that hot stud Daryl!

Sure it wasn't the reflection of the sun?  There hasn't been evidence that the infection in either series that affected animals in a clinical way, but it might use them as a transient to spread as fast as it did. Of course, who knows for sure.

Do your own research.

For anyone doubting the future of this show, Fear The Walking Dead now has the record for the highest rating first season of a cable show: http://deadline.com/2015/10/fear-the-walking-dead-ratings-record-cable-history-1201571769/

Of course, a lot of those ratings obviously stem from the hype of TWD, but they are still very strong ratings for a spin-off series. As we get deeper into the storyline and get to know the characters even more, it's entirely possible ratings will even increase.

I'm still disappointed  on the direction of the show despite it's success. For me it's not so much the characters since it doesn't matter if they stay or go. Anything that is tied in with TWD does interest me though. I will continue to follow it.

I understand. I was very uncertain of it in the beginning as well, but as season 1 progressed I just found myself enjoying it more and more. So far, it's a much different series compared to TWD.

Good season premiere. I have great feeling about this season, i think it may be action packed.

I also thought it was a good premiere - better than I thought it would be actually.  Although I went into it not expecting a whole lot from the first 6, so maybe that helped.  I love the drama on the high seas - very different than the original.

What about that moral dilemma?  The people on the boat asking for help; would you have done what Mr. Strand did or try to rescue them?

Was the guy Alicia had a conversation with a "pirate" of sorts?  If I would have been in her shoes, I know I would have done the same thing.  I'd never survive an Apocalypse.  :emma:

Strand has another agenda and he will need "Nicholas" to help him with it. The writing is good so far. There is plenty of suspense here. The walkers are not the problem, it is the people that are living.

Strand is still very suspicious; it seems like he's either part of the people who created the virus or works with/knows who did. I think he'll become the fan favorite, the daryl of fear the walking dead.

The level of stupidity of these people are so annoying. None of the characters are likeable. I don't even care if they dead. A good show should make us care about the characters.
