Nah that's not true... You just think that this happens because a lot of pop artists are flopping.Beyonce,Ed Sheeran,Taylor Swift,Sam Smith etc. are a proof that albums still sell.. I don't know any people in real life that would ever buy a Meghan Trainor,a Nicki Minaj or an Ariana Grande album.

Ariana's My Everything was a homerun tbh! It was totally unexpected that I would love an album like this!

Ever heard of Michael Jackson? Sales =/= sacrifice of artistry

I never said that sales sacrifice artistry. But you're putting financial expectations on an album that has not even been finished yet. You're putting yourself up for disappointment.

And besides; Gaga always tries to make her best work yet. Of course she wants it to be succesfull. But I feel like putting financial pressure on a creative project just cheapens the whole experience. Just like how people started to feel bad about ARTPOP just because it didn't meet the insane expectations that the fanbase had created.

setting financial expectations for something that's driven by creativity is a bit contrived. It's not how the world works.

unfortunately the pop industry is driven by marketing not creativity. Most of it is paint by numbers "art" targeted for sales.  Some good stuff sneaks through but most of it is disposable.

I am not saying it's bad! It's good. But people don't take artists like her seriously so they don't buy the album..Just the singles

The number of artists that can manage a platinum album in the U.S. and four or five million WW is growing smaller every year. That small group is dominated by males, males in hip hop and country, and then by females that appeal to everyone, especially little girls in the case of a couple of female artists.

A polarizing female artist, who doesn't really appeal to the little girl/tween girl/Mommy market, is going to have a harder time selling music in today's music climate.

It helps if you go into an era with a realistic expectation, as a fan. It certainly makes it all much more enjoyable!

Hmm not really. Yeah the sales are a lot lower obviously than 2008-2009 or earlier. But in the last years the sales are kinda stable.. Actually 2014 had more successful albums than 2012 and maybe 2013 too! I feel like pop music is declining in general tbh.

No, they really are decreasing. There was a 8 per cent decrease in album sales from 2012 to 2013 and an 11 per cent decrease from 2013 to 2014. There were ten platinum albums in the U.S. In 2013 and only two in 2014.

They have dropped steadily every year, with the exception of Adele's big year. Streaming is way up and increases every year and album sales continue to decrease every year. It becomes harder every year to get a platinum album and fewer artist accomplish this benchmark every year.

This sounds so bad for Gaga, and everyone else. :emma:
