"No to Austerity" wins greek Referendum with 61% of the votes

Greece is bankrupt. Let's face it. Greece defaulted a week ago and eventhough they have had 3 debt reductions, multiple payback date procrastinations, multiple interest lowerings (to the point where the most untrustworthy country pays interest almost at the level of France), their debt is still considered to be unsustainable by almost everyone.

Their lack of courage is shown by the referendum. They didn't want to take responsibility in case things went for the worst: in the end they can always blame the population. It's all party politics and not responsible politics that Syriza is playing. Arrogant Varoufakis and Tsipras should finally get their **** together and fix their country instead of gambling with the pensions, bank accounts and income of all Greeks (including those who were smart enough not to vote for Syriza, those who actually thought realistically that pensions and wages could not be highered 50% or the minimum wage could not be doubled).

STILL, we're not OFFICIALLY bankrupt .

Just as much as 'no' has not OFFICIALLY won yet.

But we will get the final complete results in 2 hours for no while we might never go bankrupt....

Greece is pretty damn close to a bankrupcy. Everybody's partying about it in Greece. ~60% votes 'yes' to capital controls, no more wages, Default Tuesday (new weekly thing I guess?), more loans and queueing for pensions.

as far as the US media is concerned, Greece has already defaulted and is therefore bankrupt

I'm fearful for how this will impact the global economy at this rate.

@Azor Ahai Hey, your thread was reported for having a misleading title (not in a bad "LOCK IT FAT!" way :laughga: ) because it hasn't closed and won yet, so I've changed it to "winning". Hope that's alright

The Greek people let their pride get in the way.

Well it's easy for us to say as we aren't in their situation but who would like to be dictated what they should do by foreign countries, especially when it's about austerity. If it was France omg I can't imagine, people go on strike because a tv show was gonna be cancelled :toofunny:

I feel for the greek, if I was greek I would have vote no too and get the hell out of there like my greek friends currently living abroad. They are worried for their family though, they may have to support them in a little while...

In what time can I change it to "won" :laughga:

70% of the votes are counted and , "no" has a 62% of the vote :laughga:

When it closes I guess, like when the numbers are final and concrete

Well, I live in Portugal and I know that lots of cuts were made so we can finally start seeing growth and for the unemployment rate to go down. It was made with lots of struggles, but we are getting better. If you don't have money, you have to find a way to get it. I feel like the Greek government just want Europe to forgive Greece and give them the money without them having to pay them back.

If I was greek, I would vote yes. Might as well have Europe on my side than leave the Euro, which will probably happen even though the greek government said it wouldn't happen.

I see your point but somehow the situation is different, I don't how to explain it, I guess it shows the weakness of Europe, the fact we can't find a common ground sometimes, that it feels like a couple of countries dictate what other should do without really "listening" of course I know it's more complex and I don't say Greece isn't guilty in this situation but I understand their reaction. if they want to leave the euro so be it, it was maybe not a good idea to have it in the first place. I mean in France prices rised up just after we switched but luckily our situation isn't like in Greece.

Not as much as it would have 4 years ago. Everyone else in Europe has taken their precautions and buffing up their own banks, nationalising them in some cases to prevent a domino effect.

Would this have happened earlier then yes I agree it would have had a negative effect. Short term, tomorrow stock markets will go down for a while. But I think after that they will go up again cause the uncertainty makes a stock market nervous cause of the people not knowing what's going to happen. In a few weeks time when all cards are on the table it will stabilize. Granted a Grexit will leave it marks in the European Union but it allows Greece to clean their sheet and possible now make a country more reliable then before.

Better Day

If it is a 'No' vote they have made the best decision. Austerity doesn't work. Look at Britain :neyde:

Can someone explain to me how Greece got to this point and what 'Yes' and 'No' will mean for Greece? I only have basic info. on this but I'm not very informed on it.
