Do you think Tony puts down Gaga's pop music?

 oh god

But yeah, knowing her as well as he does I just can't believe he'd dismiss her music as "teeny bopper nonsense" or think it's meaningless 21st century dribble or whatever he'd call it :green:

Did he really say that or it's just the way the OP describes his opinion?

He's almost 90, it's understandable that he doesn't like contemporary music. I guess Gaga understands this too and takes his statements light-heartedly. People at his age frequently say things you know are not true but you know that you can't argue with them. It's just the way you deal with old people. I speak from experience.

He doesn't like her pop songs, I thought that was pretty obvious.

Indeed, he clearly implied that he thinks her pop music is beneath her talent. And it is.

Tony not only likes Gaga's pop songs but he also knows their choreography. It's no secret he likes to dance to Bad Romance mimicking Gaga's every move in the video before every concert to hype himself up. Please stop trying to spread hatred

In their newest interview (Ravinia magazine) he says her music appeals to teeny boppers.

I guess it's just not his type of music. My parents are in their 70s now and I must say that almost no music that has been recorded after 1990 has any appeal to them. They still listen to the songs of their youth. I guess i am going to be the same. Still listening to Gaga when being Tony's age. :music:

I don't remember any of his interviews right now,  but I agree that GaGa is wasting her time doing pop/dance/electronic music or whatever. when he says he doesn't like the new songs, it has nothing to do with gaga, he just means there is no new jazz songs that he likes, i think

Born To Slay

He did make the statement that he's pushing her toward quality, which pissed me off a bit. Then again, I guess we can't be too hard on Tony considering people in this thread seem to think she's wasting her time and is too good for contemporary music. I personally disagree, I think dance/pop music is the best genre and that Gaga makes it even better. Every Gaga album is a masterpiece so far and it'll most likely stay that way. It's a shame to see people on a Gaga forum look down on it, whether you like it or not, she's a pop singer. She'll continue to make pop music.

Also I hate how our culture doesn't call it like it is with the elderly community. Now people are entitled to an opinion but if someone really just thinks all new songs are the same and "teeny boppers" then that's extremely ignorant and extremely close minded. It's elitist thinking. How can an artist like Tony, who's so creative, just think that entire genres of music are all the same and all crap. It's disappointing that he's so close minded. ****, my ****ing grandfather, who btw is 78, thought Gaga was great even before the ****ing jazz era. Because he gave her performances and songs a ****ing chance. Ever since we watched the Monster Ball HBO special at his house (we don't have HBO, he does) with him, he's always said of Gaga that's she a great entertainer and as he's seen more of her, he loved her on SNL in 2013, he thinks she's great. He didn't become a total Stan but he liked some of her music, he'll DWUW is one of his favorite songs now. He also loves her jazz stuff but he didn't need to see that to like her. Now I'm not saying that everyone needs to like her dance music or performances like he ended up doing but if someone will write it off and have an opinion before giving it a chance because it's modern sounding and she debuted in 2008 then I'm sorry but that's ****ing moronic and close minded. I don't care if you're 20 or 90, you should be open to new things and not look down on them. This is gonna be controversial but I don't care. Tony thinking so ignorantly about Gaga's music is must be recognized when discussing his opinion on it.

Whispering

Tony has dedicated his whole life to a particular era of music, so he believes it is superior to today's music. That's simply his opinion, nothing more...and at almost 90 years old and after devoting seven decades to this music, he's entitled to it. I'm sure Gaga is mature enough to understand this simple concept. She knows that Tony highly respects her as a vocalist and an artist, even if he isn't into her solo music.

It seems to me that Gaga isn't losing her sleep because of that tbh.

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Well, I don't think anybody denies that the market for pop music is largely teenagers.

He is certainly generalizing a bit also.  Gaga's demographic I think has always swung a bit older than say Katy or Taylor.

It's certainly true that modern pop music doesn't really care if someone can actually sing though, and Tony's sentiment is that Gaga's true talents don't really come through in that genre.  I'd say that is largely true, especially with radio singles.  A lot of Gaga fans are fans because they discovered her real talents via youtube and performances, not because of her singles which rarely show off what she's capable of vocally.

Pop/Dance/Electronic music is the core of Gaga. She feeds the culture of the popular. You don´t know what you are talking about.
