As a former alter boy and Catholic school kid I can tell you that this passive aggressive manipulative way of speaking is how all persists talk. It's hilarious once you crack the code. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Christians are NOT the same as Catholics All Catholics are Christian but not all Christians are Catholic. Catholicism is a sect of Christianity.
