MeghanSlaynor 7
I'm so happy but it's kind of bittersweet. I came out to my parents today, unaware of the landmark supreme court decision that had just occurred. They were surprisingly rude and told me I couldn't know that I liked guys if I had never been with one and that I was sinful and needed god in my life. But I don't care what they say because same s-x marriage is now equal to straight marriage. I'm going to focus on the positive.

That can be so devastating. Give your parents some time and I'm sure they will come around.Today was a memorable day for you, huh? Congratulations. Vernier 3,786
Shh, don't tell them. I feel like they're being sarcastic because of how people always say they're moving to Canada when something happens in the US they don't like, but if they're serious, yikes. They're in for a huge shock when they get to Canada Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn
jojuun 4,159
THANK GOD! #LoveWins I'm not against gay marriage but I don't think they should have overruled states' sovereignty. Let the states decide. I agree with what Scalia says here: In a strongly-worded dissent, the conservative justice wrote that he did not care that gay marriage was now legal, but he said that the Court's ability to make this decision represented a threat to democracy. "This practice of constitutional revision by an unelected committee of nine, always accompanied (as it is today) by extravagant praise of liberty, robs the People of the most important liberty they asserted in the Declaration of Independence and won in the Revolution of 1776: the freedom to govern themselves." "Until the courts put a stop to it, public debate over same-s-x marriage displayed American democracy at its best," he wrote. http://www.businessinsider.com/scalia-gay-marriage-dissent-2015-
Nicole 1,809
So happy for everyone in the U.S. But I hope people don't just assume that this is the end of the road for equality in the country, it is in fact only the beginning. I'm also hoping this victory makes Tony Abbott (Australian PM) think about his own values that is preventing such breakthroughs from occurring here in Australia. Although I'm not holding my breath on it. Congratulations again, America

Economy 52,861
Im not 100% sure but I think here in Canada 10 years ago it also became Nationally legalized because of the Supreme court of Canada Before that it was also Province by Province that had to legalize it
