lego 44,165
Shalom quickly deleted the post, but not before it raised a flurry of responses, many of which accusing her of racism. One Twitter user said: "@JudyMozes - appalled you would tweet something so racist about the President." Another was more concerned about the impact Shalom's tweet would cause: "@JudyMozes you need to apologize for this asap. You are seriously doing grievous damage to Israel's friends abroad." Indeed, shortly after the initial tweet Shalom tweeted an apology: "I apologize, that was a stupid joke somebody told me." To which one Twitter user responded: "Who told you, Dylann Roof?" Shalom followed the apology with another one, addressing U.S. President Obama directly: "President Obama I shouldnt have written the inappropriate joke I heard. I like people no matter about their race and religion." This is not Shalom's first Twitter tackle with the U.S. president. Her previous bout of foot-in-mouth disease occurred last May, when Shalom congratulated Obama for joining Twitter with the following missive: "@POTUS well come, I hope u ’ll write from The hurt of barack and not from the head of Rrsedent Obama. Kisses from Israel.” http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/1.662316 The list of international media outlets reporting on the tasteless joke calling President Obama black and weak, which the wife of Israeli Interior Minister and Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom famously tweeted, deleted, and then apologized for, is seemingly endless: CNN, Washington Post, Sky News, Guardian, Daily Mail, Slate the Independent … and that’s only English language publications. Frankly, it would be more efficient to just note the media that didn’t feel it necessary to broadcast the fact that socialite Judy Shalom-Nir-Mozes, media heiress, TV and radio show host, lifestyle guru, philanthropist, and staple of the Israeli social media world with tens of thousands of Facebook and Twitter followers, made the faux pas. (One exception stood out: those who criticize the New York Times for bashing Israel at every opportunity should take note that the Gray Lady resisted the temptation and did not cover the social media kerfuffle.) The race conversation, while always a hot button, is on the top of the agenda in the United States after the horrific Charleston shooting and ensuing Confederate flag debate, following on the heels of the longer-term racial crises that have erupted in Ferguson, Baltimore, and elsewhere in the past year. Shalom-Nir-Mozes couldn’t have chosen a worse time to hear and resist the instinct to filter - and tweet a dumb joke which has been banging around right-wing Obama-hating U.S. circles for years. The fact that she did so demonstrates that this supposedly well-travelled and savvy woman is utterly clueless as to what is happening in the United States right now. This may perhaps be acceptable for the average citizen, but one would hope that the wife of a high-ranking government official might take an occasional glance at the headlines and therefore have some idea as to the political climate and accompanying sensitivities in Washington and the rest of the U.S. and realizes that tweeting the joke in English was an incredibly bad idea. Monday was a bad enough day in the international news cycle for Israel, with the release of the United Nations commission report accusing Israel of war crimes in Gaza. Media critics would probably respond that it is a rare day that there isn’t some form of negative report regarding Israel - but the UN report was a big story, and so the world certainly didn’t need the fuel she added to the fire on this particular day. It wasn’t as if Obama and his crowd didn’t already have enough to fume about after the trio of fire-breathing Op-Eds by MK and former Israeli ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren charging that Obama deliberately damaged the U.S.-Israel relationship, making a foray into amateur psychology linking Obama daddy issues with his foreign policy, and essentially painting the U.S. president as a dupe being manipulated by the Iranians. To her credit - Shalom-Nir-Mozes’ apology and removal of the Tweet did come swiftly. Later, it came more extensively as well. On her Facebook page, at 1 AM on Tuesday, she posted a full-length mea culpa in English. read the rest http://www.haaretz.com/blogs/routine-emergencies/.premium-1.662599 FreePalestine

darkchylde 14,857
We are not making a thread of every racit tweet a politician's relative has ever made towards Obama, so I don't feel the need of this one. However, if we did, most of them would be, without a doubt, from Americans.

It's obviously a tweet from just 1 person, which is why its honestly ridiculous to apply it to 3 million or whatever # of people I don't think anyone that is not just searching to confirm their own thoughts would ever rationally come to that conclusion I think you are over-reacting/estimating Lego's power of persuasion 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
