Police Shoot Unarmed Man In Los Feliz, Leaving Him In Critical Condition

Police shot and critically wounded a man near Griffith Park after he flagged officers down and raised his arm wrapped in a towel at the officers.

The shooting took place just after 6:30 p.m., Friday evening, on Griffith Park Boulevard near Tica Drive in Los Feliz. According to police, the man flagged down a patrol car and after he got the officers' attention he raised his arm, which was wrapped in a towel. "The officer exited the vehicle and said, 'Drop the gun, drop the gun,'" said LAPD Lt. John Jenal. A witness told NBC 4 he heard four gunshots.

No gun was recovered at the scene by police, according to the L.A. Times. There are conflicting reports on the description of the man, that say he is either in his 30s or 40s and is either white or Hispanic.

A passerby in a car on Los Feliz Boulevard took video of the shooting's aftermath, which shows the man with an apparent head wound being handcuffed by officers. The video below is extremely graphic.

Why the **** aren't they calling ambulance and giving first aid? Why are they handcuffing him, he looks dead?!

What baffles me is you get these people sticking up for police in this situation saying **** like "Well if you thought someone had a gun you'd probably do the same thing!" or "The police need to defend themselves too!" 

I understand that. I really do. However, as a police officer, even IF that guy was ACTUALLY waving a visible gun out in the open, you don't shoot him in the head. A head wound is pretty much always going to kill the person or give them irreversible brain damage. 

What also sucks is these officers will probably get off, but if a citizen with a conceal-to-carry thought someone had a gun and shot them, only to find out there was no threat, that person would probably (and rightfully) be taken into custody. (And they probably wouldn't get "administrative leave" from their jobs while they're dealing with the law.)

In this situation specifically, the officers were in a vehicle. They had cover. If the man's arm was wrapped in a towel, they obviously did not get confirmation that there was a weapon before they made the choice to shoot him in the head. IN THE HEAD.

Normally police shoots in the leg or something. Kinda shocked they shot him in the head. 

The police should get rid of those individuals asap
