Bradley 59,023
Don't get me wrong, I love Born This Way, but I just want to point out this to give credits to ARTPOP and The Fame since they had the quality of coherence when Born This Way somehow lacked it in a way. The title, Born This Way suggests that it's an album about self-empowerment, positivity, love, acceptance, bravery, etc. but on the other hand we had songs like Judas, a song about betrayal, Bloody Mary, Gaga's struggle on living between fantasy and reality, Government Hooker, a song about John F Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe, Electric Chapel and ScheiBe when they kind of diverged from the route Born This Way intended to pursue. Not to mention that the album cover was dark as fck. Speaking of positivity, Prism had a better album cover. However, I have to say that I love these unrelated songs more than songs like Hair, Born This Way, Americano (gay rights), Bad Kids which firmly held on to the core message of the album. On the other hand, ARTPOP was mainly about Lady Gaga's artistic perspective/views on her life and her music. I'm not saying that every song is equally artistic but I can relate to the album by trying to view the songs in the pop star (Lady Gaga herself)'s perspective, thus even songs like Sexxx Dreams, G.U.Y., MANiCURE, Jewels N' Drugs aren't exactly about art itself, we know it's from Gaga's mind and how they produce adrenaline and excitement for her. There had been a lot of personal songs like Dope (personal struggles and relationship with fans), Applause (happiness derived from a pop star's life), Gypsy (Gaga's relationship with Taylor and how she travelled the road over the years), Swine (Gaga's loath towards rape and s-xual abuse), Do What U Want (Gaga's message to her haters and critics), Venus (Gaga's self portrayal as the Goddess of Love). All I can say is ARTPOP might had an inappropriate album title, but overall speaking it had much firmer coherence in comparison with Born This Way, as the songs were mainly inspired from Lady Gaga's personal life. This album had the best coherence imo. Sex, love, party, money, d--gs, alcohol, boys, vanity, glamor life, need I say more?

Bradley 59,023
i mean, its been done. dont take it seriously. It's just a usual discussion. Why are people so sensitive? Not to mention your gif is a little offensive. I mean I don't usually say 'IDC' when people voice out their opinions.
Dayman 6,167
Born This Way was more coherent in it's musical direction than its themes. ARTPOP had every song sounding like it was from a different album - but the themes all tied into each other. I don't think either was more coherent than the other, they just were coherent in different ways.
RainingOnMe 7,280
ARTPOP sure as hell lacked a lot of other things BTW and TF did not.

ryhanna 3,507
I don't really care whether the songs on an album all comply to an overarching theme or not, to be honest. I mean, many albums, especially pop, have weak or "barely-there" themes anyway. I like the diversity of themes in Born This Way. ARTPOP is as 'incoherent' as Born This Way is thematically, and I like that. Many songs that explore a variation of themes. Layers.

RAMROD 109,268
I disagree.BTW is the MOST coherent album she ever recorded by far.You seems just sees the song on its own that a part of things which represent BTW as body of work.Yes, Judas is about betrayal. And Sceiße is about female empowerment. But those are also part of human, or part of Gaga for that matter. She was born thay way, she believe in women empowerment with her own way, but she also can't escape from being bad, or from failures, we are born this way. DrewStevens 5,249
Judas is not about betrayal. It's about falling in love with the wrong guy but mostly about embracing your darkness (mistakes). I feel like the message is 'born to love your dark side'.ScheiBe is about feminism. The album is not all about being gay or being an outsider. It's about being who you are and being rebellious. Songs like Government Hooker, Electric Chapel and Bloody Mary are about being rebellious. The album cover is dark because the sound of the album is dark. Just because it's about being yourself it doesn't mean it has to have a colorful cover. EDIT: And ARTPOP in my opinion lacks of coherence. Mostly because Applause is the only song in the album that has art connotations.
