A few weeks ago, it was recently revealed that Iggy Azalea will be the headlining performer for Pittsburgh’s Pridefest — yet many were not happy with the decision. The city’s LGBTQ community expressed their displeased feelings due to the rapper’s alleged racist and homophobic remarks on social media.

Now, I-G-G-Y has cancelled her Pridefest appearance amid the backlash, and shared the reasons behind the decision on Twitter. The “Pretty Girls” rapstress stated:

“I am truly disappointed that I have to share this news, but I will no longer be performing at Pittsburgh Pride on June 13th. This has been a difficult decision as I truly support the event and LGBTIQA communities however if eel my participation at this point would only serve to further distract from the true purpose of the event. I am a firm believer in equality. Unfortunately in the past as a young person, I used words I should not have. The last thing I want is for something so carelessly said to be interpreted as reflective of my character. I meant to no harm and deeply regret ever uttering those words. As an adult I would never use them because I understand they play a detrimental role in the fight for issues that I do truly believe in. I am sorry to anyone I have offended or disappointed & I wish all my fans and friends participating in Pride the best of luck.”

I-g-g-bye, I guess?

Even I feel... A bit sad that she's crashing like this.

@ TIDAL how much did y'all have to do with this?

She truly seems like someone who regrets saying those words. Unfortunately, the internet doesn't allow one's past to be forgiven. Shame really because we should welcome those people who have realised their errors.

Hm.. Actually I like that she is now keeping herself away from the spotlight and cooling every negativity around her. That's right Iggz, slowly wash away the hatred that these trolls from internet put on you and come back with a BANG! :woohoo:

Don't Fuk with the Gays :miley:

They would have eaten her alive if she even tried to "freestyle" that fake word mashing up sounds isn't rap.

I feel bad for her

i hate how Azealia has made this all about race and stuff

i get it in the past she has said stuff and she is "appropriating" black culture.

but so much hate? Man the world is fuccked up and then there are questions why no one is tolerant or loving. I mean you should lern to forgive.

The reasons people present for hating are sad. She try's to be someone she's not? Who cares. Give it a rest!!

i'm not her fan. I only listen to Fancy/Black Widow/Problem. But I feel sad for her. She seems nice. Give it a rest!

The apology is sincere and I for one could forgive her after that. Very mature of her and she's clearly learned her lesson.

However, this does not mean I feel bad for her. If you do say something offensive, then you should expect backlash. Your apology makes things better but that doesn't mean people should feel bad for you.

The hell does Azealia have to do with this? :duck: As a matter of fact, what does this have to do with race to begin with? :duck:

She SHOULD apologies for being homophobic. Just because it happened in the past, doesn't make it okay in the present.

" She try's to be someone she's not? Who cares. Give it a rest!!"

Mess :smh: You may not care but others do and they should. Racial appropriation isn't cute. It's offensive. If she gets backlash for putting on a faux accent and trying to replicate African American culture with a weird twist and not give credit to those she's been inspired by then she deserves to be called out for it.
