That's surprising yet not that surprising. Surprised that they're giving up on Unconditionally so soon, given their impressive track record of pushing all of the KP singles into the top 5 at all costs since 2011. But then again, when you have a promo single that's doing so well on iTunes compared to the official single which is being bombarded on radio, then this is only the most logical option to do. KP is surely going to get her 9th HOT 100 #1 with this one next year. If not, then that would be truly surprising, if not shocking.

You mean to tell me,

the lead single smashed and the album sold pretty well

but there were plagiarism accusations for the lead single and the album received mixed reception from fans

and the second single did a lot worse than the lead, despite having a good video and a few promo spots

so they decided to rush release and promote another song that was previously a promo single as the album's third single?

haven't heard of any of that happening before.

Eh. I don't care too much for the song. I know it's doing well on iTunes. I would've liked Walking On Air much better. Maybe that'll be the fourth single when it's Sping and she announces the US tour dates.

Smooth Criminal

She is going to regret it if she pays dust to the SMASH that is "LEGENDARY LOVERS".

She had her 9th No.1 if she had released it as the 2nd single, but obviously she didn't listen to me. :manicure:

Dark Horse (Part II) please. Scrape that disgusting Juicy J rap part and it'll be a perfect song.

What's up with Capitol? Before this, their marketing of Katy was outstanding. Their single choices for Teenage Dream were perfect. Roar is the only good choice for a single they've made so far with the Prism era (and it's still a medicore song at that). Releasing a promo single that was released two months ago, was the second song the public were introduced to prior to the album and has already sold over 800k in the US? Do they want her to fail? Actually, I think Dark Horse was the only good song on the album (and it's not amazing, just decent), but it's far too late to make it a single now, plus, Katy going urban is frankly cringey and Juicy J is far from a credible rapper. You know that this is going to lead to yet another rent a rapper remix, right? I wonder who she'll pick - 2 Chainz? Tyga? Both? And while it may get some success in the US, it won't do much worldwide. Promo singles released by American artists always peak early overseas and never make a comeback (she actually almost made it to #1 in New Zealand with the song but doesn't stand a chance now).

I just don't understand how Capitol are screwing her over so badly now. I was fully expecting Legendary Lovers or Double Rainbow to be the new single (let's face it, they're the only two songs left that could be hits). If she makes those songs singles after this, she stands a chance of picking herself up again, but re-releasing promo singles is not the way to go, even if it does feature a rapper. For those of you saying that this is Katy's BTW era, you're sorta right in the sense that it's a big comedown from her last album's peak, but Prism is flopping far harder than BTW ever did. BTW (the single) was a much bigger hit than Roar, Judas went top ten all over the world as opposed to the floptastic Unconditionally (which only went top ten in 2 countries and only charted in a handful of countries to start with), BTW sold over a million in the US first week and Prism couldn't even get 300k, BTW sold over 6 million and Prism is getting nowhere near those amounts and couldn't even go to #1 in any non-English speaking countries. And the Prismatic tour will not present the BTWB's gross with any competition. BTW's performance would have been considered a massive hit for most pop stars.
