FFXSoul91 1,092
WAIT. Do the videos get censored on the Walmart edition too?! Walmart doesn't make any sense. They censor explicit songs, but let everything else fly. They sell unrated movies and don't censor music videos. So, if you're hearing "naughty" words, it's not okay... But if you're hearing "naughty" words and seeing "naughty" images, then it's fine.
LaLuna 12,732
You know, as ballsy and genius as the iTunes-exclusive surprise release was, I'm starting to think it's gonna hurt Beyoncé in the long run, especially if retailers start snubbing her,

StrawberryBlond 14,196
Their stance is understandable. Physical copies are hard to shift these days, therefore, sales opportunities have got to used to sell them and Beyonce has already used up all but one of those opportunities in one swift move. The album's first week sales, Christmas sales and Christmas-aftermath January sales are the three moments where album numbers (especially physical copies) go through the roof. The other 95% of the year is a bleak time for physical copies. This is why all my local outlets of HMV are closing - the Christmas sales period alone isn't enough to sustain them for a whole year. Now that all the hype for the album will be over shortly, the demand for physical copies is low. There's no way of gauging how much demand there is for them, so retailers are tentative about how many to ship in. This release idea is all very well but it was carried out at completely the wrong time. People thought all the albums were done for the year and were already compiling their best of lists and kicking back for Christmas. This album was a hasty, last minute thing that had to be added in after the fact. But above all, it was the month that was the problem. There's a reason very few albums are released in December, outwith smaller artists - December is a time when sales of already released albums massively increase due to Christmas sales, especially teen sensations like 1D and mumsy favourites like Celine Dion. Most new albums don't get a look-in. In the UK, I've seen albums with first week sales of 100k+ (a massive debut sales for us) only debut at #3 in November. Beyonce really shot herself in the foot by releasing at this particular week because, mirroring what I just described, she only managed a #5 peak despite sales of over 60k (Gaga was only 2,000 copies or so less and that was enough for #1 in November) because nothing can shake the power of 1D, Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams for us Brits. January is also a bad time because people with giftcards and gift money start buying copies of already existing albums too. In the UK, February is a bad time as well, because that's when the BRITS screen and the viewers suddenly rush out to buy the albums of the nominees and winners. March-November should have been her release date. But too big a risk was taken and now she's paying the price. I bet people are really annoyed that they can't get a physical copy to give someone for Christmas. Giving them an itunes giftcard isn't always the same. IHE 559
Then Beyoncé don't need thos companies and there overrated services to sells albums Is she doesn't need them, why do her fans care then?
Gagaloo911 12,959
Nice to see SOMEONE who isn't jumping on the Beyonce bandwagon just because she sold well her first week The album will be dead in a few weeks. Nothing to hype it or keep people interested. Just front-loaded sales work at its finest us all this album will show

IHE 559
So, was Beyonce also inspired by the way Madonna treated a fellow artist who also happens to be her friend? Losing respect for this Illuminati b---h fast. Madonna can't help being the b---h she is, she's a beast, but Beyonce never seemed like the type of person to condone that sort of behavior and turn her back on a friend. I want a video for Aura yesterday with Honey B dead in a trunk, stat.

StrawberryBlond 14,196
I agree. I don't like the word "gimmick" but I agree with the principle. How many albums can you name that had innovative release methods that went on to sell millions? I sure can't. History has shown that the traditional album release model - lead single, second single, album release, third single and so on - is what is most fruitful. All the bestsellers followed this model. Spoiling the public never works. Too much all at once tends to leave you feeling bored very fast and there's nothing to look forward to. There's no wondering what the album will be called, no wondering what the album cover art will be, no wondering what the tracklist will be. There's no wondering what Beyonce's second single will sound like - we've already heard it. There's no wondering what her singles music videos will look like - we've already seem them all (even if they are just 30 second teasers). Teasing the public is what maintains their interest. Too much all at once means the albums individual songs and videos will not have their moment in history. The whole thing also goes against fans who don't have MP3 players (believe it or not, not everyone does, and those who have the option on their phone maybe don't use it and some don't have the money for one) and I like to buy physical copies of my favourite artist's music, so that's really put them out. An itunes exclusive was a bad idea. Why discriminate against physical copies and their consumers? Surely the best way to sell music is to make it available to everyone? Her sales could have been even bigger if she'd had physical copies everywhere on her opening week. It's not about a smash number 1 single anymore though. I think Bey is way past that point in her career it's about putting out a solid quality record as a whole. I disagree. Beyonce is following up from the biggest flop of her career (not that 4 was a flop, sales wise, but its singles were and it was a flop by Beyonce's standards) and despite what her fans think, her singles are not as big or made as much of an impact as they would like to believe. So many of them flopped outwith the big lead single. If I hadn't researched Beyonce, Crazy In Love, Baby Boy, Naughty Girl, Irreplaceable, Ring The Alarm, If I Were A Boy, Single Ladies, Halo, Sweet Dreams and Run The World would be the only singles by her I could name. And that's only because I keep up with pop music. Most people I speak to can't even name a Beyonce album. Of all times to make a release where single success was not guaranteed, post-4 was not the best time. Lol at "anti marketing" at her exposure rate. Super Bowl, Pepsi, H&M, a world tour lead up to this album. Exactly my point. Now we know what all that "promotion despite no new music" scheme was all about. Beyonce has been all over the place for months. But to hear all these media publications talk, you'd think she'd come back from an Xtina-length reclusive hiatus. Some good that promotion did, if everyone seems to have forgotten it in a heartbeat.
