Luc 4,776
In reality I don't want unity within the EU. I have decided against staying in the EU. They are absolute no point in it. However I do see the positives. I have mixed feelings about the EU. I don't know what to vote in the upcoming referendum. I may be in favour of one world however I don't want union in the EU because it is less likely we will become left-wing. I feel that if we are the 'United States of Europe' Scotland would have less likely chance to become indepedent and socialist. The world is far to right-right nowadays The great thing about the European Parliament right now is that not a lot of people care about it right now: basically only progressives and left-wing people vote. That's why socialists and greens have such a big impact in Europe, and they can help the citizens with rules. The lobbying has to stop though No, there are not. Women + PoC + LGBT rights are the most important thing to talk about. And no, all the countries in the european union do not have "the best laws to protect the LGTB communities". I'll quote some basic Wikipedia for you / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_the_European_Union / No recognition of same-s-x couples in 9/28 states. Same-s-x marriage constitutional ban in 7/28 states. Joint adoption in 11/28 states, step-child adoption in 16/28 states. Now, I don't care how brainwashed by the media you are, but good economic policies or whatever you think is "more important" is worthless if I'm enjoying it in a society that does not respect me nor allows me to be who I am. I disagree with you. The most important thing is healthcare, then there's money and social welfare, then there's education and then there's freedom of speech, freedom from discrimination, democracy, etc.

Luc 4,776
You sound white, cis and straight.I'm white, gay and don't know what cis is. And I might be white, but I'm not racist and I have priorities. I think that giving people medicines, a house, food, clean water, hygiene, education, etc. is way more important than having gay marriage or gay adoption. Open your eyes, this is a problem only to 7% of the population or so. There's 500k people who die from malaria every year, and millions of kids who are underfed, and millions of infants who die, and in many African countries the average person dies at 30. Hell, in some South African countries over 25% of the population has AIDS. Those are way more important than gay marriage, which is a very small issue. Now female rights are more important, because they impact a lot more people. I think it's important to give education to as many females as possible, because females who have education will get less kids which has good long term effects for poor countries. hmm 979
You sound white, cis and straight.Seriously wise up, using 'white, cis and straight' as an insult in the first place is pathetic as if it devalues someone's political opinion. EDIT: Get back into the real world if you think that in situations where countries such as Ukraine are fighting existential crises, others with unemployment rates of upwards of 20% and major health pandemics are actually to prioritise gay marriage over these things.Of course equal rights are deserved by all but tumblr logic does not apply to real-life politics. As for the bolded, "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services." ie. the human right to health is mandated by the UDHR; ergo, Luc's desire to prioritise health is in fact 'fixing human rights'. As for your comment @Luc regarding the word 'cis', not knowing what a word means (especially the abbreviation of a word) and especially when english is not your primary language, is not indicatory of anything
Ayesha Erotica 1,963
Don't act like Switzerland is an independent country in Europe. To be part of the trade union, they have to apply all European rules to their system. And next to that, with all the treaties they agreed with Europe, they didn't actually get the chance to vote no (because a 'no' vote would mean all previous treaties and everything would be cancelled). Switzerland spent 50 billion euros trying to have their currency compete with the Euro, which was a failure. Now Switzerland is in a recession because of the ECB policy, which made Switzerland 1,2x more expensive for the rest of Europe. But in the end, they have no say at all in the EU, eventhough they do everything they have to. I hope the EU pushes Switzerland. It's like a criminal nation in my opinion. It's the center of all European (and perhaps worldwide) corruption and tax evasion, and with their 'banking secret' they justify the problems they're giving other countries (like Greece).By the way, I don't get the nationalist-populism in all of your posts? You keep referring to some elite in the capital of each country which has all the influence? Switzerland is an independent country in Europe because it is voluntarily associated with the EU and all treaties signed between Switzerland and the EU are legitimized by national referendums, thus by the Swiss. Are you even informed about glorious Switzerland? Switzerland is neither part of the European Economic Area nor do they have to apply all European rules to their system because Switzerland has its own - better - system.Switzerland has its own special bilateral treaties and agreements with the EU, it only accepts those rules that it wants to accept, it is not forced to accept or implement rules that it does not want to implement because it has not agreed on being foreign-ruled.Do Portugal, Greece or Finland have there own bilateral treaties and agreements with the EU and can choose the rules that they want to accept?I don't think so. They are not real democracies unlike Switzerland. The Swiss voted Yes for a free trade agreement with the EU in a national referendum in 1972. They voted against EU membership in 2001.Were the people in Portugal, Greece, Finland, Spain, etc. asked whether they want to be part of the EU? I don't think so. They are not real democracies unlike Switzerland. And yes, Switzerland agreed on treaties with the EU but that doesn't mean it is not independent. In fact, it is very independent. Last year Switzerland voted against mass migration and voted against EU rules on migration. Do people in Portugal, Greece, Finland, etc. even have the slightest chance to vote against EU-made rules? I don't think so. They are not real democracies unlike Switzerland. Switzerland is in a recession because of the EU and the Euro - a sick currency and a sick system around it. Switzerland is richer than all European countries except for Luxemburg, and Switzerland has the highest average wage in the world, so even though it is in a recession, Switzerland is still doing better than all EU countries. Switzerland is a perfect example that you don't need to be in the EU to be successful. To your last question:The capitals in other countries, like Paris in France, have all the power centered in their capital which controls the country. Paris controls France. Madrid controls Spain. It is better to have a federal state system, like Germany, Switzerland or Canada, where there is no dominant capital. It is even better to have no official capital like Switzerland, because prioritizing a single city in one country is de-prioritizing all other cities in the country which is UNFAIR, that's why Switzerland doesn't have a de jure capital. If the Swiss population voted against a treaty, all previous ones would be lost. That's how the EU basically blackmailed Switzerland to always vote yes.I do not see how uniting different countries is a problem. Nationality is only a thing made up. The only corrupt system here is in Switzerland, by the way - a safe haven for all tax evasion, criminality and corruption. If it wasn't for Switzerland, the debt of EU countries would've been way lower.

Well, if you ask me Switzerland is the most corrupt place in Europe, not the most democratic one. Is full of illegal money and daily tax evasions. The worst thing is that is not only bad for the economics of the rest of the countries but also for the democracy in general.By the way, you talk about the EU is like you think is a bad thing when really I see it as a very very good thing. Just look at Spain, we were 40 or 50 years in the past when our democratic history started. Women weren't even allowed to open a bank account without the permission of her father or husband. We didn't have modern cars. In this 30 years Spain has grown so much and has developed so much that it would be impossible without the help of the EU. faux 2,190
I'm so glad that my country and Switzerland are not part of the European Union. We are the only true democracies in Europe, we are the only countries where there is regularly a national referendum. We are the only countries where the opinion of the people matters, we are the only countries were we can change political decisions with the help of a national or regional referendum, where we can make our own decisions.I don't wanna be ruled by Brussels, why should politicians that have nothing to do with my country make rules that affect my country??? That's sick.I feel sorry for the people in Greece and Lissabon that have no other choice than accepting obligations made by an artifical construct called "European Union".I can imagine an union with Germany, Austria and Luxemburg, these countries are superb and have a lot of similarities with us. They should leave the EU to be honest and found a new Central European Union that will be better than the "EU".Yeah, let's make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Great plan. Let's forget about a united world.
Ivannn 1,150
It is funny how non EU countries like Norway and Switzerland will always talk **** about EU and how they are so much better on the outside and they are more democratic when in reality they apply 80% of laws and rules voted by the 28 european leaders in EU and they pay money to be a part of EEA because withput EU they would be well almost nothing.
