Gaga's next moves

Gaga is at a really interesting point in her career.   Nobody can deny her vocal talent anymore, and pretty much nobody does except abject haters who can just be ignored. The fact that she is a potential "national treasure" type of entertainer is growing on people who couldn't see past the quirk factor she came into the industry with.   She's on the "first call list" for anyone doing tributes or big performances, and she has huge respect from the top talents of the music industry.  Soon she will be on AHS and it's going to be fun to see her grow as an actress.  The sky seems to be the limit for Gaga, in terms of her overall career.  So what do you think are her next/best moves?

Pop Music - Personally, I think at this point she's at a perfect point to just think in terms of who she is as an overall musician and entertainer and where she wants to go, without worrying about specifically trying to fight it out in the pop girl arena.    She needs to be above all that mess and just produce music that she artistically needs to produce. I think this is the time for her to really just come up with whatever music she thinks she wants the world to associate her with.   People are taking her very seriously now, stepping back to pure dance pop would seem to counter-productive and not progress her in any way; but that said if that is what she wants to do at this present time then she should do it.   I'm all for getting exactly what Gaga wants to give; not what fans want, or labels want.   However, in my view, this would be a great time for Gaga to cement her musicianship and vocal ability.   I think a pop album, not dance pop, that is heavily oriented toward the best songwriting she can do and showcases her vocal and piano skills would be perfect at this time.   it doesn't have to be low energy or ballad heavy, and not even all acoustic instruments, but a non-dance album that combines acoustic and electronic sounds organically to serve well written songs would be perfect for her at this time.   She can help define the next generation of pop music by taking some cues from the current indie scene.  And I think it would actually be more commercial than just trying to recreate TFM or some throwback that so many fans seem to want.   I want to see who Gaga really is, a combination of all her influences, including the singer/songwriter side we've only seen sporadically since she's come onto the scene, and without her magnificent talent being buried by electronic production and the need for 4-on the-floor dance beats.  This is a perfect time for her to channel her inner Carole King and make the lyrics and the song itself the priority.  Her videos can still be as avant garde and edgy as she wants them to be.

Jazz Music - I think she should continue to release a jazz album every couple of years or so, even if she doesn't tour it.  In many ways Gaga was born in the wrong era, as evidenced by how much she loves and handles the music of much earlier eras.   She needs to keep doing jazz so she develops her true, own, jazz voice.  The followup Tony album should be completed if it isn't already, to take advantage of the momentum of C2C.  She should continue to do albums after that, even if they are mostly standards maybe with a few original jazz works thrown it.   It'd be really cool if she can improve her jazz piano chops and channel her inner Diana Krall but that may be asking a bit much.

Broadway - Finding (or writing) and starring in a  broadway production is the next most obvious step.  She trained for stage work, she has the voice for it.  It's really the next most logical step in her career.  I think she'd be superb on Broadway and she has the star power to bring in huge crowds.  I'd be surprised if this isn't already in the works, unless she just doesn't want to commit herself to a long term production.

Movies - she should keep doing moves obviously, but start looking for deeper roles that can stretch her acting abilities.

Art - I hope Gaga keeps doing Art, on her own and in collaboration with people like Robert Wilson.   Her works with Wilson are outstanding, deep, and moving.  She goes places that the vast majority of people are unwilling to go, and that is the sign of a potentially great artist.  I hope she continues to find mentors that will help her nurture that .

I literally agree with everything you wrote here. I have this strange sense of worry that Gaga going the dance pop route for her next album would be counter productive for all she has accomplished but at the same time Im a bit scared that if she releases material that is more pop rock oriented may not be received as well. Im definitely here for another jazz album I enjoyed C2C a lot, maybe a more modern jazz sound for the next one. I think I remember hearing something about Barbra Streisand getting Gaga a role for the adaptation for Gypsy so If that happens I would be beyond excited.

All I need is for her to release a "Jagged Little Pill" and "Ray of Light" type album back to back. Scalp the world with her innovative music and kick ass eras.

I would love if she returned to her original roots, which is rock power ballads. A dance record would just sound tiring at this point. I don't care if she charts well or "makes an impact". I want her next album to be her most genuine one yet.

That would be amazing!  Can you imagine if her next album is similar to Red and Blue songs as well as songs like Marry The Night and The Edge of Glory?  That would be like an orgasm to my ears!

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

This.  I agree with everything the OP wrote.  Before a more modern jazz album, I think the Cole Porter album will be great.

I think her next pop or rock album will not be like what she has done before, but something new and fresh.

Completely agree with you.  Her next album will be pop with rock influences.  I am super excited to hear her new music!!   :wao:

In spite of all my speculation, I have literally no idea what Gaga has planned and no expectations.  Thats the fun part of being a Gaga fan, you just never really know what she is planning.

So much this.

I'd love to have her channel an 80's vibe onto a pop album with a rock soul, showing off her legendary pipes and song writing. Basically what you said :flutter:

I am so HYPED to see what she does next :wao:

It totally is.  Gaga is so unpredictable and I absolutely love that about her.   :gaga:

Yeah if she does something in music that combines organic music + her own twist she could do really well and it could be one of the major highlights of her recording career. I also think she has EGOT potential, so she should branch out to Broadway and serious movies, and she's already doing TV acting with AHS.

Yes, and I'm so glad she's keeping things a secret right now.

I think Gaga has a "jagged little pill" in her, although at this point in her life she probably doesn't have that much angst. :)  I think she can reach that level of brilliancy though.

SORRY GUYS but what i'm about to say may be *call it wtv you wanna call it*. You see this makes things hard on me and many fans we fell in love with Gaga as a Popstar, she was once the QUEEN OF POP music and now she's more of the QUEEN OF EVERYTHING. She dedicated her all to revive Pop Music in a new way that is not low Brow hence TF, TFM she then tried to do more with the genre ala BTW and impact the lives of MANY and as crazy as ARTPOP is perceived it's still pushing the envelope. So if you want Gaga to go back to her roots, do a jazz album, not be commercial anymore , leave the mainstream culture which she created you must be kidding me. Have you guys forgotten the effort we and Gaga put for her to make it to the top and for her to create music that speaks to all from losers to kings. It's funny cause everything Gaga built is being taken away by others and she's just the jazz singer now. Gaga was the biggest thing ever during 2009-2011 not even Madonna or Taylor had her impact. Gaga paved the way for all these Pop girls tbh and I don't care if you don't agree.

GAGA has to devote most of her time in making POP MUSIC that's what she was born to do and that's what she worked for her entire life, her craft would be meaningless if she doesn't develop on it and no making a jazz album full of standards or landing a role on a tv show doesn't not count as developing what she initially built it's basically her exploring new genres and new projects and starting something new and don't get me wrong I am so here for that and that's amazing as long as she doesn't pay dust to her initial craft. I repeat I stanned for a POPSTAR.

What Gaga needs is an Organic Sounding Pop Album with no techno and little electronic elements so she can showcase her killer vocals, you have Rolling In The Deep probably the most impactful song since Bad Romance it's Pop but has elements of Soul. So if Gaga wants to explore with new elements no problem but we need something uptempo , something that will get our hips moving , something that will slay world wide and something that will top charts and please radio. I mean this is most likely the case or else RED ONE won't be involved. Gaga is making the next big thing in POP and it doesn't have to be basic to slay the other pop girls to shreds and sell millions of copies ok bye bye.
