in terms of impact

thriller>vogue>like a prayer>bomt>bad romance

video wise for me

bad romance>thriller>lap>vogue

can the edgy "overrated" comments about all of those videos go away?

What's BOMT?

Vogue isn't even Madonna's best video. Frozen says hi.

Anyway, Bad Romance is definitely in the league of the best. Paparazzi was the start of that, and when Bad Romance hit, EVERYONE stopped and watched. It was praised to the high heavens. It's a fantastic moment in pop history.

I don't think it has the same level of impact yet because it didn't bring anything new, but I actually prefer it over Thriller or Vogue as a video

I still don't get what's so great about Vogue. I think it's boring.

It brought the the vogue dance into the mainstream

Definetely yes :gaga: Tbh I hadn't even heard about the song Vogue till last year so I don't consider it as the most iconic song/video from Madonna :laughga:

I would like to say so, but I think that more time should pass before that question is answered. I just do not think that it would be right to downplay the impact of "Thriller" in any way. "Bad Romance" certainly was essential to Gaga's success with The Fame Monster, but was it so successful that it will not be forgotten after a decade or so? I do not know.

I'd say yes, but I think just on video alone G.U.Y. is more amazing and comparable.

Lol at those who voted no being the same people who always like to praise Madge trying to make Gaga look weak :fan:

I don't think next to anything can make an impact quite like either of those videos again because we're living in a post-modern-post-modern society. I think people are hard pressed to allow any one video or one artist to get that much credit. Cynicism is king. That being said, it already made an impact that was at least nearly as valid and wide. Will anyone care in 10+years? Who knows. But I think its just as delusional for you to strip her of having a legacy thats as valid as Madonnas, obviously not in the same way but nevertheless. But I mean you're Jjang, you tend to have a bias opinion of Lady Gaga in regards to Madonna.

That's a known fact... I barely bother reading comments made by that user since I know already how the answer will be just by connecting the title and the OP with the username :toofunny:

I think Bad Romance, Alejandro and Telephone are all actually much better than Thriller and everything Gaga has done is better than Vogue. :legend:

Bad Romance was also an exceptional merge of visuals that brought music videos into a new era. Lady Gaga came on the scene and everyone else stepped their game up. She made pop music and being a pop star something cool again, something to pay attention to and acknowledge as more than just consumerist fodder. Her phenomenon ushered in a new era of pop female domination. Am I saying Bad Romance is Vogue or Thriller? no I didn't, but I think these days it got as close to that status as it could have. The problem is, people are far too cynical about her to acknowledge that. Your opinion of Lady Gaga isn't as realistic as you always so arrogantly declare and im 100% sure you're aware of that. You tend to have an overtly cynical point of view of her and you make a point to debunk any notion that she is of any sort of importance in pop music or that shes to any degree substantial.

Now you're acting in a cynical manner. You're judging my mentality yet you sound like any other fan that's caught up in his own Gaga cycle bubble. Every now and then a new artist experiences a meteoric rise to fame that leads the rest of the music industry to step up its game, Gaga is just another example of this recurring phenomena. There are several factors that made Gaga briefly impact pop culture's atmosphere and which eventually became a lot more tense and competitive thanks to her, but solely crediting Bad Romance for that is ridiculous. That's a skeptical concept and you know it. Take Britney Spears for instance, she has done exactly what you claimed Gaga did just a few years beforehand with Baby One More Time, Slave 4 You & Toxic. This recurring event in the pop scene is essentially a stretch of the original approach of artists like Madonna & Michael Jackson. Bad Romance doesn't have a distinguished, specific impact / legacy attached to its name. Therefor, its not near the level of Vogue or Thriller. Is it an iconic Lady Gaga single? for sure. Is it anything more than that? nope. And like I've previously stated, the elements that Vogue brought to the mainstream are still being religiously used. Whether its Gaga voguing in her early Fame era performances, or FKA Twigs dedicating an entire section in her show inspired by it, or directing a video that resembles it. Or the obnoxiously over used House Piano Samples you hear in so many modern songs.

I will admit that I half regret voting 'no', because I don't think Bad Romance is overrated by any means. It deserved its success.

I'm not shocked nor surprised that some of you fail to sense or acknowledge the brilliance and the uniqueness of the Vogue music video. What makes it so special is that it incorporates the most fitting imagery with the given music. I have yet to witness any other music video perfecting that department on the same level. But then again, some of you think that loading a bunch of props and having a big set makes a quality music video. Ironically, the majority that made these comments praised the Bad Blood MV. So I guess I couldn't be any more correct.
